Hey guys,

What do you think the engine can take befor it give out. I mean PSI's. Like im running about 7-8psi on my car now. Im thinking of getting a boost controller but I wonder how high can I go on stock motor.

I wouldnt go any higher than that.

I know people on here go bigger and some people will even tell you that there is some magical tuning that can make a stock engine take high boost forever and ever but I disagree. I think that if you want to turn up the boost and have it be reliable, replace the rods.

there's no reason that you couldn't run 10-12psi daily... as long as your tune is good.

The tune is from Roush...Do you guys think I should get a better tune to be safe?

rousch? oh god your screwed...

lol j/k rousch is obviously a good company but I've heard 1 or 2 rousch tuned cars went sour. that's not to blame rousch, that's just what I've heard.

if your gonna up the boost.... get it on a dyno and have it properly tuned for that amount of boost... dont just slap on a boost controler and crank it up... not a good idea...

to have it reliable... get your controler... install it on the dyno... and have it tuned as you go.

out of the box tunes from roush and what not are ok.... but not all that precise to the vehicle like a custom tune is....

anyways... about psi.... ive heard of sum running as much as 14psi... but 10-12 would be safer... and its not the instant boost thats the problem... its sustained boost that ushually causes the engine to cough up a rod or two... and that is assuming you are intercooled

do you know how much boost the roush kit makes stock. like acidburn said on our cars you have to tune for each boost setting. so if you run 7 lbs and up it to lets say 12 you will need 2 tunes. so what i would do (if you can swing the bling) get a diablo chip so you can get 2 tunes on one chip and have 2 boost settings.

No, you don't have to tune for each boost setting if its done correctly initially.

And for the record, I've had a Roush kit here and the owner wanted me to tune it on the dyno. We put it on and it looked great at 8 psi or so with the Roush ECU calibration. And then we turned up the boost and it still looked good and there was no need for custom programming at all. IMO, Roush did a good job, you just need to verify the programming at some point on your car to be sure that everything is cherry pie.

yeah, but you dont want to get a tune thats tuned for 8 psi and w/o checking just crank it up to 12.

Thats why you tune for 12psi and then you can turn it down when needed.

If you tune is safe at 12 it should be VERY safe at anything lower.

Right, which is why I said:
