I was told we did a 2:07.xxx
Might've been even quicker if your man would stay out of the dirt. LOL.

Nice job.

please tell me Lorin won street FWD...
That Integra had some power; daresay quite a bit more than Lorin's mildly-boosted Zetec (see frush's post above...).

As I said, Lorin wasn't satisfied with his setup; he chipped away at it throughout the morning. In addition to following setup advice from Allan's (slidemaster) experience at Buttonwillow, some rather sage tire pressure advice he received, he says, helped too. :p

I detailed the car Sunday morning so Dan would feel bad if he stuffed it. It worked! The car stayed clean (relatively) all day.

We ran the same suspension settings Sunday morning that we ended up with Sat night. Ran 2:09s. Made some tire pressure changes. Ran consistent 2:09's and 2:08's. Stiffened the sway bar before the time attack where Dan ran a 2:07.92 (90% sure on that .92) and consistent 2:08's. During the third practice session Dan took out a passenger and ran 2:09's that were all within 3 tenths of a second apart. We had somewhat high hopes for the last time attack session but Dan got caught behind an Evo who didn't realize that full bread race cars aren't always as fast as an Evo in a strait line. With a cooling track and a better prepped car we were hoping for consistent 2:07's but it wasn't meant to be. More wrenching next week with NASA at big willow!

It was a fun event... while certain parts of my car weren't working so well, overall most of it was great.

I need to figure out what happened to the shift linkage... I appreciate Andrew's offerings of help for adjustment, I didn't bother because I never felt like tearing into a hot engine bay... and I only needed two gears on track anyway.

I unintentially removed 0.5 degrees of front negative camber before the event by deleting the crash bolts, in anticipation of adding more through better camber plates. That never happened, and that little change led to an understeering pig... I made all the adjustments I had available, but she just wouldn't rotate.

Heat soak is definitely a concern. I'll be getting fresh air to the PowerWorks ASAP, as it just isn't going to cut the Mustard.

Overall, I ran about 2.2 seconds faster than last time, but I missed the elusive street tire'd 2:09.xxx I was looking for by 1.06 seconds.

I'm pretty confident that I can get down there once the setup is more dialed in. The humidity and temps didn't help either. The last event was 20+ degrees colder and dry.

I highly doubt I'll ever get to the 2:07 range that the Integra runs... not without spending more money that I'll ever be willing to without something like sponsorship dollars. It'd take a built block, big boost, and coilovers to get that. Well... maybe not, I shouldn't go too defeatist... I'll see where refinement of what I've got gets me.

I'm happy though, as long as my linkage problems are all EXTERNAL ones. I don't want to crack that thing apart again.

On the major upside, the SVT brakes were rock solid, the new gauges were a wealth of information for engine health, the Torsen works very well, and all of the new suspension parts seems solid as a rock.

how did you like the 235/40/17 on 7.5" rims?
They seemed to work well. They're so different from the 205/40-17 Ecsta MXs that I ran last time that it is hard to compare... overall I think I had more grip, though with the nasty understeer, I lost a little the other way.

Between that and the Torsen it made it a little tough to compare.

But... they were predictable, and the audio feedback was good.

If you push them too hard for a couple laps in a row, they'll go greasy enough that you'll wonder what suspension component just broke.

215/40-17 ;)

You're confusing Scions.... (at least... I think you are) Chris Rado in the World Racing tC was the dirt excursionist.... He was the guy that went off in the second session in the final turn on just about every lap. Hes got one thing for him and that is that he's not scared to do it to it!

Actually they don't make a 205/45-17, only a 205/40-17... Those biznitches were only 23.5" inches tall!
Got them confused with the T1Rs that were on there prior to the MXs , which were 205/45-17. The MXs were 215/40-17. :)

Lorin took second in Street FWD with a 2:11.xxx

Allan took second in Unlimited FWD with a 2.01.xxx

Craig Dabbs.... crap he was driving Janos' car... but I don't remember the position.
I was 3rd in Unlimited..Dabbs set a track record in a SRT4 in Modified FWD
I believe the BDX cars where 5th and 6th in Street RWD

Loren was battling understeer issues...so he was doing what he could with what adjustability he could find. As you would expect with Loren improvements were made. He may or may not agree but he had 2 seconds more with a better set up and cooling. I want to complement all the guys that helped all weekend including Loren, Craig Allen, Craig Dabbs, Dawn, Frush (x2), the guys at Modified Mustang and especially Walter Marcy and Tim Anderson from Racepak. You can read about the test of the R888 and R1 with complete data acquisition info in the september issue.

I was basically toast after Friday testing of tires, the interior temps were in the 150s with floor temps in the 180s in the Fox car. We made some changes to help on Sunday but man after you heat cycle your body at those temps for 20minutes 4 times a day.... 2 days in a row. I just was not 100% for the rest of the weekend. Ran 2:08 in Street RWD but the car was good for a 2:06 and I was not.

Dan did go off once on Saturday before Talladega went over a couple rally jumps well and bent a rim. I don't recall him going off again.

I think with some more suspension tuning and adding 30-40 more Whp, we should be around 2:06 or 2:05.

Craig I think the goal is next week is to run a 1:37 at Willow and once we add the extra power 1:36 to 1:35.

Thanks again for the help. See you next week. You should have more help with Ali and Laura there.

That's a new track record? You guys were running #13 right?
I could have sworn I've seen a show where they beat that time by a couple seconds...

[edit]... Actually I found it. It's a Chevy Cobalt and it's more than a couple seconds.. they beat it by over 10 seconds.

Track record for Redline Time Attack Modified FWD... Overall there have been times well into the 1:4x range.

Awwww well that's a different story.... Well definately puts some context around it though..

Come on Craig.. man up and hit 1:50 flat :D

You are correct. Lorin and I actually met the test driver for 034 Motorsports along with the rest of their team at Harris Ranch last night before dinner. He said he had piloted a Jetta to a 1:55, but then told us of John Heinricy's 1:51 in the Cobalt.
