Well the car is at Tri-Gen now. We'll see what Jr. and his pops can do for the car.

Cool, our cars are both in the same shop then, I'll check yours out next time I swing by

OK so the word as of today is that the problem is probably the Crank Position Sensor. I had heard that this would be a possibility a while back, but knowing that it would be a bit of a bitch to deal with, i elected to look for any other possible reasons. :bang: This is no guarantee, but is more than likely the culprit.

Apparently the housing or "bucket" that it sits in was broken, but someone had done a "MacGuyver" to it and jury-rigged it by adding some weld to it and hoping that would keep it in place. The sensor utilizes a magnetic signal and if the sensor is not exactly where it should be, you get intermittant (if any) ability to start. For those with mtn.bikes that have computers, think of this like your computer on your handlebar. It needs the magnet from the rotating spoke of the front wheel to tell the computer things like speed and distance. The damm thig isn't worth a squirrl's terd if the sensor is not positioned in such a way as to pick up the magnets signal as it passes by.

Man what a pain!. Now the tranny has to come out and the bracket and sensor need replacing.

More to come in a few days...

Also, those that know who i have dealt with for this issue know the names of people invloved...I will not name said names and i hope that people will not say that i did...BUT
- there are only 2 places that this jury-rigging could have been done, and i trust one of them (Focusport  ). I do not bitch easily about things, but the other shop :thumbdown contiues to piss me off even several (9) months after i pulled my car outta there!

Thank the Focus gods for Tri-Gen () and their ability to tell me something other than "We have no idea".

Hope springs eternal.

Sweet Merciful Crap!!!!
 Trigen is now my official shop of choice.
I now have my car and it runs like a top! The problem was as stated in the last post. Some unscrupulous shop had broken the Crank Sensor bracket and instead of properly dealing with it, they juryrigged it. So naturally that failed and the position sensor was loose and "floating" in the bracket. Thus intermittant starting capability.
I picked it up and was totally satisfied. It is nice to be able to drive my car again.

The Flea Lives !!! :hump:

Thanks to all that helped me with ideas and information.

so I take it the trade for a stock Kona is out?? hehe

I know you dont want to name names, but sharing bad experiences with shops is good for us to know so we can avoid that same mistake.

Can you at least name the shop?

responded in PM...

Thanks,
Gabe

Long time since posting but the car is again sidelined with a ceased motor. It may be something simple or not.
Anyways i may just go a whole different route, car wise, or sell my land cruiser to pay for a whole new motor and beef it up a bit...

I feel for those (in other threads) dealing with mechanic issues, and am waiting to see wich shop is the less "evil" before i make any formal descisions.
Dunno what to do...any thoughts?:dunno:

Where's that Kona now? Still have it?

Me = retarded, I know... but, hey.

yeah, where is that?...lol:garage:
