The main parts you should get: 91 octane, window chalk, and a pressure guage.

Search around [FJ] for starting pressures and learn what the car feels like when you change them around. You don't want the tire to roll over onto the sidewall. Other than that, just get some seat time and enjoy the handling of your SVT

I would check the SCCA website for some info about your local chapter. You may also want to check in the regional forum and see if anyone knows of a local club other than SCCA that may AutoX locally also.

Good luck and have fun more than anything when you start out.

Looks like your next local event is July 15th. Sign up and run stock class. You'll have a blast!

Don't get parts yet. But 1st thing in the future would be good tires on a separate set of wheels.

Yup. Just autocross it in its stock form and stock class. You'll have lots of fun. Then you can start the downward spiral into wheels, tires, suspension, power....

Thanks for all the info given on how to get started yeah the wife thinks it would be better 4 me to do this instead of xbox 360 so here goes nothing
 I think my wife feels the exact opposite....and I do both!

Just wait until you are hooked and then it can cost more than a 360 is.

Nick, Don't even bother getting another set of wheels and tires yet. My first year autocrossing I used one set of wheels for daily and autocross. I lated through 9 autocrosses and 25K miles on that set of tires before I had to get a new set.

Try out the sport and see if you like it THEN look into investing money on it.

I will be at an autocross in OKC this coming Sunday the 8th. If you want to come down to that event, you can enter it, or simply ride along with me a few times to see what it is like. OKC is about 3 hours from Wichita if you want to try and make it.

Those are called "racing slicks" now and should be super fast ;)

Hopefully you have the time and money to get some new daily driving rubber and that will be more than sufficient for your first couple autocrosses. Plus you won't have to change tires once you get there.

yeah i will try to make it down there i still need to buy tires for my car period because they are BALD as in no tread at all on them
If you are looking for some all around tires including auto-x, I'd say look at the BFG g-force sports. I used those for auto-x and street and they lasted quite a while.

I have the Kumho SPTs right now and I love them, but I have never autocrossed with them so I am not too sure how they do.

Or you could go with the Kumho MX which is probably the best compromise tire for grip, tread life, wet and dry grip for streeet and auto-x. Mine lasted right about 20K miles with many autocrosses on them.

Then brake pads, exhaust, air filter and struts. Everything else depends on which class you are leaning towards. (STS has fun, easy mods...but Foci can't compete nationally.) Just get as much seat time as you can and have fun. Find a Veteran to get advice from and have him ride with you.

Oh...and get an MTX-75 tranny. Wait...that won't fit. Darn.

Good luck!
