So my Foci is approaching 180,000 KM (=120,000 Miles) with the stock timing belt.
I'm getting ready to have it changed and was thinking of what else I can do at the same time to improve performance.

My signature has all my mods.
I was thinking of a new set of CAM's (which ones I'm not sure).
Would this be a cost effective upgrade?

The car is my daily driver though I work from home, so when I do drive it I like to have fun!

BTW, I did do a lot of seaching for this, it was kinda hard to find people that actually followed through with a CAM set install.

if you decide to do that i would open up the exhaust a little more, put on some long tube headers and a set of stage 2 cams and (some stronger valvesprings) with a good tune should do the trick :) but like you know evrything costs green

its more complicated to change cams... the install would be a lot of money because the cams have to be tuned correctly for them to work, may need new buckets, etc. I don't know if your local ford dealer could do it. A speed shop could do it I think.

A performance chip/tune would be a much better upgrade. The change is noticeable and pretty significant. Cams can be a headache to deal with and are not fully utilized without a tune.

when i did my timing belt... i swapped in a set of Comp stg. 2's while I was at it....

i didnt have to change any buckets... all specs were right on odly enough... and it doesnt take much more effort to do it while your there.... just do check all the specs... and be prepared to have to order buckets of the proper size just incase you dont get as lucky as i did.

now... the cams i chose... didnt add much down low... but up above 2.5k.... it'll push you back into the seat pretty good....

it did however get expensive.... after all was said and done... i spent nearly 700 on the timing belt change and cam swap... ( i also installed adjustable gears while i was at it...)

either way... good luck... and I hope i was helpful

^^^wow dude......yes it got waaaay too expensive for you....im gonna be paying that to get a professional do it for me, get 3 xcal2 tunes+ get it all dyno tuned.....

how the hell was it $700 for ya?

tack on the cost of parts for that though ;) he still is coming out pretty damn good for that money

you wanna talk bout cheap.. ask me what i paid for all my stuff ;)

lets see.... here is what i ended up giving...

cams ~ $300
UR gears ~ $60 used
timing belt, tensioner, idler, waterpump, cam alignment tools ~ $200
oil change after build - $50
misc. parts ~ $40

+ shipping and handling and a rush order of a part that cam in incorrect.... so that added to it a little more...

with no buckets needing to be replaced... and minus shipping and the other crap that i had to do... right at $650

now... if i would have taken it to a dealer to have just the belt replaced... it probably would have been more then that... so i think i did alright...

you can do it for cheaper if you keep your eyes open... i just didnt have the time to keep looking for used parts....

-EDIT- o yeah.... ^^^^ what did you pay for ur stuff?
