do you think the K&N typhoon kit will work as well as the AEM CAI

The SVT is not a drag car.

The gearing is extremely tall, and there is little torque at the bottom of the powerband.

A CAI is only going to move your powerband up anyway.
I've never gotten a tune, so I would bet that it would help.

Still, the issue is that you are trying to race him the wrong way. Try going to an autocross event instead.

this is all we have available right now.

You'll be set if you get an ORP in place of the cat, a xcal2 [focussport has them I believe] and make sure to spend the extra 25 and purchase an extra program with alternator disabled at WOT, drag launch, and all of the other goodies--make sure to read up on them on the FS website, and the intake. that should help at least a few tenths. The retune makes a big difference in overall driveability from what i've read. Like I said just start unbolting random crap and taking it off the car, that'll help. And practice the launches, that'll make a big difference. If you have anything left over from that 800 i'd spend it on a motor mount, dogbone first...that made a huge difference in the wheelspin I had with my car. and the dogbone is typically the cheapest, as well--100 or under. That would put you right at the 800 mark.

I have to ask this (please don't hate me)....what is the dogbone??
I don't want it that loud so I can't do the orp, probably the hi-flow cat

CFM high flow cat made more power on the dyno than an ORP. I agree with the dogbone idea though.

That is the CFM dogbone. I would get it with the race bushing. Adds more stiffness and is $20 more.

so
Dog bone mount- $119.90
CFM High Flow Cat 299.95
Sct X cal 2 From FS 379+25=405
Which puts you just a touch over 800 :dunno:

yeah, the reason why I said ORP was solely because of the cost factor...for 300 for that cat, though, you could probably get the ORP and a cheapo ebay exhaust for it which would most likely give you higher gains than just the high flow cat. Additionally, if you were to go with the VF dogbone mount it's 20 cheaper, i've had mine for a couple years now and am very happy. To answer the question about what the dogbone is, there are 3 motor mounts...one on the top right, which is the drivers side transmission mount, the left hand side, which is the upper motor mount, and underneath the car there's one that looks like a dogbone that's been twisted 90 degrees. this one is what we're talking about. in addition, if you can find someone with a zx3 with some sticky tires on light rims i'd borrow those and run 25psi in them. that's about as low as you'd want to go on non-drag tires. the decreased diameter and weight will help a bit.

dude let him spank you in a drag race. save up some more money. get a few minor suspension tweaks and all the stuff mentioned already. then tell him to race you in a real race. something that requires a real performance and skill. like a auto x or road course.

ive driven one those civic SI' and man they suck when it comes to the launch it doesnt pull as well as the SVTF. you will only waste your gas.

im sure it launches much worse than an svt with and lad and all. those really dont help launch.

the si has more hp and only 5ft lbs tq less that the svt.

you need to get your fact straight. or learn to drive.

yeah, i'll have to agree there. does he also have a 800 dollar budget? if so, you might also be screwed. keep in mind that a FULLY gutted civic SI is almost a full second quicker than a fully loaded one...and that's with NO other supporting mods. do yourself a favor and carefully gut as much of your interior as physically possible. it's good practice to help recognize what parts are necessary and which aren't anyway, lol

Exhaust not needed for SVT. It already has 2.5 inch exhaust that flows well.

im sorry, but if he is a OK driver, he will beat you, if hes a great driver. He will embarass you. My 2.3 with intake, exhaust, and tune and wagon wheels (4lbs lighter each corner) will get walked pretty hard byany k20 car, rsx type s, civic si coupe or sedan. Enjoy the car, just dont race out of your league.

$800 budget can get u a nitrous kit which would def help u win that race haha
like david said those cars w/ k20 motors are fairly quick stock.

ok, we are doing this for FUN, meaning we aren't going to strip out the interiors of our cars (although I will remove the spare tire). Ok, so if I did predator tune, K&N typhoon, "dog bone", and hi-flow cat I'll have a chance?? (not saying I'll win but at least have a chance). and yes I do plan on taking him to a road coarse eventually. thank you everyone for the help so far, I'm trying to do the focus name proud.

just get at 150 shot of nitrous and hang on hehe, and uh dont ask about the health of the motor after word :)
