I have a 2001 Focus SE, the turn signals work fine, but the switch does not automatically return to center once the wheel is straight. I removed the switch and looked at the spring-return mechanism, and it looked fine and operated fine in my hand. I replaced it anyways with one from a junkyard, and it still does the same thing. Anyone encounter this before?

have you changed the clock spring assembly? or just the turn stalk

When mine did this the Multi Function Switch or whatever it was called broke or so I was told. I got it replaced once and then dealt with it after it broke again. They said you had to remove the airbag to replace it, idk if they were lying but it was covered under warranty so I didn't really ask a lot of questions then.

No, they weren't lying.
Its most likely the little cam thingamajig ( don't know what its actually called) on the steering column.
And the only way to get at it is to remove the Steering wheel and clock spring.

Thanks all. I actually discovered the problem sherro described shortly after posting my question. The car is going in for a safety today, and I just let them know of my findings and asked them to deal with it. I am very handy, but not willing to mess around when airbags are involved. The quick response was much appreciated!
