Well, when you look at the Ford part numbers for the belts the middle number is the length in inches.

I just ran my VIN through the VIN decoder and heres what I found.

Original belt JK6-834-E so it was 83.4 inches, BUT that belt is superceded directly by JK6-842-A which is 84.2 inches.

For some unknown reason the 2004 SVT lists a JK6-841-A which is 84.1 inches.

The regular Zetec's those years also show to use the 842 so it really shouldn't matter. The tensioner should have enough movment to make up for a 1 inch variation in belt length.

Thanks Steve. I actually picked up a regular Zetec belt yesterday and they gave me a 83.7" belt (no-name brand). It was VERY tight but fit. If this one goes, I'll probably just get an 84" belt.

Will a tight fitting belt cause premature ejac...I mean water pump/power steering pump/alternator bearing wear?
No, it should not. The tensioner will automaticaly set the tension.
