Has anyone attempted to re-route the throttle and cruise cables so they don't hang all over the top of the engine bay?

Yes I did. Its easy and I wondered why Ford didnt run them that way from the start. I may have some pics hanging around. Someone asked this before and I posted/sent pics. Try a search...if you dont find anything, shoot me a PM and I will get you some pics.

Not only that, but it looks better without the cables there, too. ST170s in the UK don't have this problem if you look at pics, mostly cause the pedal is on the other side of the car.

Ok...I will see if I have them or need to take more!

Ok I searched but the pics are gone and I just took a couple more.
Here they are.
It takes a bit of work but its super easy to do. Just dont kink the lines. Keep a flowing curve.
Here is where I attached the throttle cable to the firewall. Those mounts were there for something, and now at least one is functional.

Here is how its routed. Cruise control comes up before the TB, and runs along the back of the valve cover. There is a clip that I took form something under the hood, and it now holds the cable to the loom. In the second pic I put one of the cable ties that I used. Got it at home depot a long time ago. It has a screw eye-let.

Not once have I had a problem with this setup, and everything works as it should.

Hmmm interesting stuff.

Back in 02 I rerouted the cables. I never could understand why they did it that way. It was only a month of me owning the car that I saw they were rubbing the VC. Plus it looks better with them off to the side.

Im sure if someone wanted to be more creative in the routing they could do something different. I was contemplating running the CC throught the space between the upper and lower intake to hide it even more. Thought I dont know for sure it it is long enough. Unfortunately cant do that with the throttle cable.

I rerouted mine but noticed the accelerator pedal required a bit more force to puch down and it felt like the cables were binding. If you encounter this try picking up a can of motorcycle cable lube and the little aluminum clamp down lube block that goes with it. Any decent motorcycle shop should carry it. Looks like this. The block clamps down around the end of the cable and has a small hole to insert the spray tube from the can. If done correctly, the lube will spray down the inside of the cable all the way to the pedal. Make sure you put a bit of paper towel around the cable by the pedal to soak up excess. I'm not certain I would do this to the cruise control cable without first removing the module and seeing if it can be opened. I don't know if the lube would get in/on the electronics inside of it.
