Anyone running Hankooks in either Time Trials or racing?

I am going to need another set this winter and Hankook is currently paying contigency money in both NASA and EMRA for a win, place or show.

Thought I might look into them and see what was avaliable.

I have gotten around 5 time trial events and 1 HPDE 2 day session out of my R888's.

Will definately need new tires by next season. I like the 888's but want something that might be a bit faster, and if I can make a little change in the mean time from contigency money, why not?

Which Hankook is the "best" choice for our cars?

Hankook only has one R-Compounds now... and that's the Z214s, but they have different compounds.

Compounds:
C30 & C31 - Hard - Recommended for Road Racing
C50 & C51 - Medium - Recommended for Road Racing
C70 & C71 - Soft - Recommended for Autocross

If I was running in TT or PT.... I'm sure I would use Hankooks.

Thanks for the input Ted.

My guy that I have been getting my tires from will not order the Hankooks for me. I was asking about them at the start of the year and he told me they were junk, ect.

No Problem.

Well, there was a R-Compound Tire Called the Z211(more tread like a RA1) that was junk. USTCC used them from two years and they hated them.....The DOT Slicks were always good.

Hankook doesn't make that tire anymore.

There are always the C91s.

Seriously... though. I loved my Z214s when I had them. Great tire. However....they're particular to track conditions. Hot weather? C51s. Cooler weather? C71s.

They have 225 or 255s in 16" both with a 50 profile. 225s are $195/ea 255s are $221/ea.

Well as Todd knows- for about 1 1/2 years every single unlimited class win was on Hankooks at the Redline Time Attack- of course the car and drivers were pretty fine as well

I talked with a hankook user at Mid O. He switched to the Hoosiers for Nats and regretted the decision. Ted and Bur gave good info on the compounds. The C71 compound will work great if you only plan to be out for a warmup and two hot laps in warmer weather. They fall off bad when they get overheated. The C51 will be more consistent, more resistant to hot weather, will allow you to run full sessions, but will be slightly slower. And their contingency is a good one :D

I only know of a few guys running the kooks in PT. Quite a bit more run them in TT.

I wish the C3x compound came in some other sizes; Frisby does not even have one size right now. For HPDE, I need tires that'll hold up for a season (or at least 6-to-7 events). NT01s are my favorites right now.

Frisby does have 205/50-16s in the old C50 compound for $85. Thinking of picking up a set for the 2009 national Alfa Romeo Owner's Club event in Portland (they'll run time trials), probably next July. Just not sure how long they'll last in storage! Heh. I'm sure they've already been sitting in a warehouse for at least a year.
