I just bought a Dodge Durango, it has 4PT and 4FT... the manual says the 4PT For extra traction on lose surfaces, gravel, and slippery conditions only, the 4FT says for all road surfaces? I don't understand what the difference between the two are. I tested both off-road, but couldn’t tell anything..

My guess is the part time 4wd is 2wd until the car senses wheels spin then it diverts power to the other 2 wheels.
Then the full time just puts power to all 4 the whole time.

That is just a guess though I don't have any real world experience with it.

the 4PT will lock up all of the wheels so they all spin at the same speed. This is great for traction, but produces extra stresses on the drivetrain in grippy conditions. 4FT powers all 4 wheels as well, but allows them to spin at different speeds. This is the one you'd want to use on normal roads.

yup, it sounds backward to me, but it's how chrysler does their transfer cases. Basically, in full time, the transfer case is unlocked, whereas in part time the transfer case is locked.
