OK got more info even stumped the ford tech that helped me. All manual tranny foci use a one way clutch assembly to promote belt life and stop chirp upon fast decelleration. Is the owc removable or will the possibility be that I can use an auto alt. which does not use this owc?2007 2.0 Pzev manual

im a ford tech and ive never heard of this being on a focus before. shoot user slokoop a message and ask him. hes a good tech also.

never heard of this either...where are you getting your info on this? last focus alt i removed a pulley on was a 24mm nut and a light tap with a hammer.

I live in Lake Elsinore and this is info I got from the tech at the dealer next to me. I guess it is on all Pzev 2.0 .Can I use a different alt from a non PZEV or maybe an auto setup? I need help on this you guys.

All manual transaxle applications are equipped with a one-way clutch (OWC) in the generator pulley. The OWC pulley temporarily disengages the generator rotor from the front engine accessory drive (FEAD) system during high deceleration rates on the engine, which may increase belt life and decrease belt chirp. A new OWC pulley and generator/voltage regulator must be installed as an assembly.

thats from the service manual- sounds like to me, you have to replace the entire alternator as an assembly and it has to match either auto or manual transaxle. I had never heard of that, but there it is in writing for you. why do you need the pulley off? btw the one way clutch evidently is only servicable with a new unit. hope that helps some.

Me no like that. Can I swap out to a new alt. with out that owc like what my buddy has in his non pzev manual duratec. I have a near full acces. pulley kit that I would love to finish installing.

from my understanding from reading the service manual, all 2.0 manual transaxle cars are equipped with the one way clutch, you might could try it, but i don't think i would honestly. the alt is easy enough to take on and off, you could try swapping and see what happens...

I guess 300$ and we will find out. Who wants to buy me a new alt?

FWIW the Crown Vicky cop cars use the one way clutch too, I've seen them go bad. It's weird, the serp belt and everything still spins, but the center hub in the alt is just sitting there. At least now I know what the clutch is for.
