So far no real problems, except I found the reason for the HG issue I believe.

The WGA diaphragm is ruptured. So far I've just been lifting when the boost buzzer goes off.

I'm going to see if I can fit a spar Volvo WGA I have to the frame that the original WGA is in.

BAT might still have wastegates for a decent deal. if not talk to merkurmidwest or phil over at OPMD.

glad you got the car up and running. FMIC / 3" turboback / few more lbs of boost is good for about 50whp and 100 wtq :)

There are alot of places that sell a regular T3 WG housing.... I do recommend that you do a Boost Bypass so you don't kill everything.... AND just a few other recommendiations...

1. spark plugs/tune up
2. cheapie intercooler
3. BOV
4. 3" Cat back, i got my pipe from BAT wwwaaaaaaaaaay back when
5. AF meter
6. Boost gage.... Don't trust that buzzer for anything.

good luck ... i have an extra AF meter, its old and i don't know if it work... i'll be happy to send it to ya if you want.

Recent plugs, wire, cap, rotor, pads, and rotors before I got it.

Plan on using a DSM side mount/BOV as soon as I can get to PnP.
3" is def on list.
My Zeitronix WBO2 is already in (mounted where clock goes)

honestly i wouldn't bother with the DSM cooler, unless you're getting it for a really good deal. there are better options out there.

Megasquirt will be going on ASAP (with DSM coilspacks), I just need to get a crank sensor setup.

are you shure u wanna do that? thats what i run in my merk its a pita nobody around here tunes with it.. may be the same for you..

You COULD swap the system to a MAF unit. That's what I did with the SVO, I was just lucky that I was able to get a buddy of mine to build a tuner from diablo sport to modify it (it helps when you have connections).

I ran it on my Fiat X1/9... I'm sure there are more Ford 2.3s running MS than Fiats.

:)

I love megasquirt.

So the Wastegate was not exactly "gating" turns out the diaphragm was ruptured. Boost spikes to 20+ psi (I was lifting at 18-ish when the overboost buzzer went off), which probably is why the head gasket blew initially.

I suppose I could have spent $60 on a new wastegate actuator, but... yall know me better than that.

I happened to have a Volvo wastegate actuator in the garage, so I worked on adapting it.

You can see the brackets are different. The rods are also different lengths. Also the end that attaches to the wastegate is adjustable with a thicker flange than the non-adjustable stock one.

The stock wga was attached to the bracket via spot welds. I drilled them out.

I then cut the non-flat part of the Volvo brackets off the WGA.

Here they are before "hot glueing" them together.

At this point I got out the welder and forgot to take any more pictures. Bad Matthew, bad.

After welding together and installing, I found I needed to grind about half of the thickness of the "eye" that connects the wga arm to the wastegate. After that I was able to put on a new c-clip and go for a drive.

It works!

Total spent:
$3.22 for a pack of c-clips.

Boost Control Solenoid is non-functional, I believe. Boost never goes up past wastegate setting.

I'll remove it and slap in a ball&spring boost controller.

I installed the MBC this morning. At 17 psi I'm running 11.1 AFR even over 5k RPM.

I really need to get downpipe and intercooler

Yep, the downpipe will make the car spool SOOO much faster, but that's a little turbo on there anyways.

As for the intercooler, i'd also get a BOV, but nothing crazy, it really messes up the VAM. Anyways good luck

I'll do a bypass valve instead of a dump valve. I like my air metered :)

Yep! I've always been a big fan of that... it makes the car run so much better....

Or just get a dual piston valve. I'm running a Collins on mine with little to no issues. Ray has a Forge 004 and it's even better.

I'd keep the car around 15psi for now until you get an intercooler. That air is already piping hot at 15psi.

with a dual piston BOV (i like my forge, although it's a bit loud) and the slow response time of the VAM, my AFR doesn't drop below 10:1 on WOT shifts.

I highly recommend it. :)

Great job on the WGA, that right there is XR-innovation.
