They really offer 2 totally different driving experiences. I say turbo but you will want to build your internalls! Also it will be a much easier road if you wanted to supercharge it. There is'nt much aftermarket support for either in the SVT you will basically be working with just a few companies. look in the Forced Induction forum and do your homework!

I am going with the turbo but I have a 2.3 Duratec. I would probably go with a turbo if I had your motor because that same techology is used by the OEM's and they could have used any system they wanted for more power. The 02-04 RS used a 2.0 turbo and it is a very reliable (and fast) car. Just my two cents...

I would go with a turbo, and will when I get to the point of going FI with my SVT. Superchargers are awesome but you can only get so much power out of the set-up. You can/should build your engine for either if you want to make stupid power levels, but with a supercharger once you hit the max that's it. With a turbo you can keep turning up the boost or easily change the turbo if you max it out. My 2 cents....

Welcome to the forums and that's a good question. The answer may depend on a number of factors. First, I'd probably ask what you intend to do with the car and what you're looking to get out of it. A used supercharger kit is going to be less expensive than a new turbocharger kit and might offer you enough power to be satisfied. If you're looking for bigger power and can afford a turbo kit you'll probably be rewarded with a nice fat torque curve and better upgrade potential for more power by going that route.

Now if you happen to live in California or one of the other 14 states that have addopted the California emission laws and have to get inspected, none of the turbo kits have CARB EO approval. There were only three blower kits that did (Jackson Racing (JRSC), Vortech, and the Powerworks kit) and all of them have been discontinued. That was a big issue for me which is why I tracked down a new discontinued aftercooled Vortech kit. If I have a choice and didn't have to worry about smog testing I would have went with a nice turbo kit.

Take a look in the Forced Induction and the SVT Headquarters sections to get some ideas what people have done. For the SVT the XIOS turbo kit seems to be pretty popular along with the blower kits already mentioned. If you get a complete kit, keep in mind you'll also need things like a wideband air/fuel gauge, upgraded clutch, etc. to ensure its running safe and to be able to put the power to the ground.

I live in Kentucky, Im pretty sure here we dont have the emission law. I just want to eat hondas for breakfast mainly and have some more power out of my car with the possible trips to the track, I want to do this the right way and not have major regrets about what I should have done to get more power. What kind of clutch would I need for each kit? Seems everyone says get the turbo or if they have the supercharger already get the turbo but do many shops install a custom kit? because I dont want to mess my car up by doing it myself. As said this is and will always be a car I drive everyday no matter how much hp it has I believe you have a car and don't drive it how do you have any bragging rights if it sits in a garage all day. Judging from this which will I like more and does anyone have vids or links showing each no turbo kit vids on youtube of the svtf also links with where to buy each part I need for both?:dunno:

Now is actually a good time to go FI. When I built my turbo, there weren't any kits out there specifically for the SVT focus whereas now there are around 4-5 complete kits and 6-8 DIY kits so there are many options out there. As far as building the block for boost, the SVT can take ~300whp with a good tune before you actually have to start worrying about the internals.

The Jackson Racing Supercharger(JRSC) is by far the cheapest method of FI with used kits going for ~1000-1500 dollars but if you're going for big power I would advise against it as it is also the lowest hp/tq producing of all the methods of FI. It makes for a fun daily driver so if that's your thing by all means go for it but because the SVT internals are pretty solid, why limit yourself to 210whp?

Welcome to the Jet and feel free to PM if you have any questions

Im glad I found this and didn't have to ask the same dumb question. LOL...

I have been debating this for a week or so, and I dont even have a focus yet! Im planning to buy one in the next month or sooner hopefully! I WANT TO GO TURBO! I just don't know which kit to get. Im looking for an SVTF right now, but did find a nice 03 ZX3 with the 2.3L engine for sale here locally, and ive been told thats a kickass engine. Were the 03-04 2.3L engines the "Duratech" or still "Zetec"???
FocusSport is right down the street from me, so I guess I could go talk to them too...? The smog thing worries me a bit, but probably not enough to not get a turbo kit. LOL.
I have been searching everywhere for the right car. I may have found a sweet deal out in Illinois. Its a Black 02 SVT with the Jackson Racing S/C and Nitrous! Heres the best part, it only has 3,000 miles on it! It was some company show car. Was in a magazine and then stored, now its up for sale. I thought it was an awesome deal @ $10,000 but then I would still have to do the turbo kit... *sigh*...

The 2.3L engine is a Duratec.
