Great day of beating up on Mustangs, Miatas, 350Z's and G35's

On Saturday I took to the track at Nashville Superspeedway for an awesome day of open track action. This was my first opportunity to test out my new RE-01R's. They performed very well at almost full tread depth. The fronts are about 1/2-3/4 depth and the rears are about 3/4-7/8 depth. I think they will be even better in the fall at the same venue.

This year I moved up to the intermediate group so I could have an opportunity to pass in all sessions, not just that last couple for the novice class. This turned out to be a good move. The SVTF surprised many people out there. I got compliments from a lot of folks that recognized how my driving ability made up for a lack of horsepower from my car.

During the sessions, I passed the following cars: 2 G35's, 1 350Z, 1 Miata, 4 mustangs including a GT500, 2 Porsches (968 and 928), Saturn Sky, and probably a few more that I can't remember.

Overall, it was a fantastic day. I'm hoping to get into a test & tune night at Gingerman Raceway at the end of June and another open track day in September at Nashville Superspeedway.

Any comments or questions are welcome.

Nate

There's no passing at all in the first couple sessions of novice class? Ouch.

Just checked out the map, turns 9-2 look fast. Good job moving up in classes man, keep it up.

Slow is all relative. I know I could have beat my car if I had the chance to drive the GT500 or even the 350Z. My car is slow as mollasses in a straight line, I only hit 110-115 down the front straight, but I could outbrake and out corner almost all the other cars in my class. Turns 9-2 were extremely fast. Think controlled 4-wheel drift at about 100 mph+ and that will give you a good idea of what Nashville is like. It takes a few laps to get the balls to go all out entering turns 1 and 2. Nate

I think stock for stock all but the possibly the porsches would be faster.

If you think a 350z, a G35, and a GT500 are slower than a stock SVT focus, you are either ignorant, or just overly optimistic. And the saturn sky has a pretty close power:weight ratio, and with equal drivers should be a bit faster too. After all, it is a sports car and the focus is an economy car.

I hope you mean slower...

I'm sure slidemaster can comment on whether or not stock mustangs are faster.

Yeah that has to be what he meant! LOL

I have been to Nashville on a motorbike, and the front straight is SCREAMING! And going into turns 1 and 2 are quick! LOL Probably more fun in a car unless you have a slipper and like backing it in like Ben Bostrom! (note i didn't have the balls for that maneuver!):arr:(Beavis moment) MMMMMUUUUHHHHHADATJSDJAJGJGAGUIGUII!!!!

Sorry back to my point, So all of the bigger engined cars should have been able to blow by a SVT focus on that front stretch. I bet they could top 125-135mph there. But apparently their throttle foot was a little shy! :D
The rest of the track is pretty tight and the focus has a distinct advantage!

I wish i could have made that event, let me know when the next one happens and i will bring my VERY FAST Stock focus with 360k miles on it and we can freight train the whole field! :D

Spec Focus on track tires run what, 1:39 at Willow. Did that in several different Gt500s on the same day last year in a School we did for the club. Years ago I ran 2:14 at Buttonwillow in a SVT coaching Scotty with some sort of 100 tread wear tires. A bone stock 05 that I tested for the CHP ran 2:15 in the same configuation, track tires would have been about 5 seconds

There is a world of difference in the S197- just wait till the 10s with the track pack option are out there.

I would guess a Miata and an SVT would be pretty close?
