No doubt racks are expensive new! luckily deals can be found on used stuff!

End of the weekend Update:
And a rather lame update it is

All I got accomplished was to vaccuum the interior check the oil and spend a few minutes planning out a little wire tuck.
The majority of the parts I was hoping to install this weekend did not arrive on friday (no doubt they will show up today and I will have to wait a week to install them)
but I did get a nice little mini road trip down to OHIO with a friend to pick up a new car.
Next weekend I will have better updates I promise!

made some progress tonight.
my new Hi Beam bulbs came for the new quad light setup.
I think they will be sufficiently bright :)

Also I managed to get 2 of the fender flares on my car before I ran out of hardware. Hoping I can get the other 2 on tommorow.
Here is what I started with: I hit them with rust stripper then self etching primer to hopefully keep them from getting any worse.

Whew what a weekend!
I didnt get nearly as much done to the golf as I wanted but I did get to attend Focus In The Field which was an absolute blast!
The round headlight conversion is complete on the golf I am in the process of wiring up relays for them so that I can run my Narva 90/100's and hella 130's in them but for now they are just the oem bulbs.
I think the pictures will speak for themselves, its definately looks bettter IMO.

New Stickers from the weekend I have decided to use my Diffuser as a portable scrap book if you will I want to collect a sticker from every state/event/track the golf goes to and then when the diffuser fills up I'll buy another one and continue filling

Not entirely golf related but it explains why I havent been getting enough work done to the golf :D
Had one of the most bittersweet moments of my car modding life tonight
On one hand I was thrilled to finally get this out after a good 12 hours of working on it.

but on the other hand I am severly going to miss hitting the skinny pedal and hearing the whine and rush of boost.

ah well I guess I'll have to buy something for the golf to console myself :D

the weekend is over which means its time for an update!

- the headlight wiring is complete (its so nice to be able to see!)
- the car audio is up and running great however its not the system I had mentioned above due to the components not fitting in my doors I wound up putting some 4" pioneers in the dash and a pair of 6x9 alpine type-s in boxes in the hatch area.
overall its still much louder than I anticipated and sounds great I hope to get the components fiberglassed into the door panels at a later date.
- finished cleaning out the hatch area so it is now completely gutted back there save for carpet and spare tire.

also I this evening I purchased some new parts in the form of:
ABA block with forged internals, 2 ABA heads, 1 16v head, 1 ABA intake manifold.

at this point I'm not entirely sure what combination of block/head I will use it will probably be largely dictated by how long my stock block holds together (small amount of burning oil and low compression)
if the motor will stay together until the middle of next summer I would like to get the 16v head worked over a bit and swap pistons in the aba block to make a high compression 2.0l 16v motor.
if my stock motor dies before then I would be praying the stock 1.8l head is ok and then I would just swap in the ABA block for a super simple high compression mild build motor.

orrrrrrrr if I win the lottery (difficult to do when you dont play) I would like to build the 16v head throw it on the ABA block and have a low compression forged internal motor ready to accept a hefty turbo and 15+ psi :)

Such a sweeeeet car. I've had the pleasure of working on two digifant 8v Veedubs (via former Cabriolet-fanatic girlfriend) and I must say, they're just incredibly fun cars to work with/on/around. And with the head swap, I can only imagine the fun factor!

btw the roof rack already makes 'er look reeeeeeeeal pretty, heh heh

I love old vw's.

:) moar pictars of progress :D
I aint subscribed for text..

 jk, sounds good so far.
My dad worked on one similar to this one back in our VDUB shop in Bosnia. He had the pleasure to work on a couple, but his favorite was the 1992 (correct me if im wrong, im pretty sure it was a 92 mk3 they first introduced the vr6 to) vr6. And also a 1994 Cabriolet.

Oh yes, he slammed them down (yes, they had that back in the day in Bosnia). But he liked them better stock and fixed up. So, like you said, no hassel for the winter :) :p

I'll have more pictures up tonight
the vr6 was first introduced in 1993 when the mk3 first came out.
I dearly wanted to put one in my golf but the price differance, weight and mpg penalty just didnt make it practical at this point and time for me

I might have to sell my focus and buy one of these for cheap depending if I can get a job when we get shut down soon :(
I would highly recommend it!
I will tell you that you definately cant make a purchase like the one listed below for focus stuff!
2- complete engine blocks
1- set of forged rods/pistons and crank
3- heads
1- intake manifold

all for $200!!!!!!
