I'm assuming you are referring to what we have here in the states as the Plymouth Superbird--definitely a functional spoiler but IIRC it's that tall to clear the trunk swing.

The Super Bird spoiler used on a Road Runner, one of the sexiest damn Mopars aside the Superbird. (Fact NASCAR banned the Superbird because it could exceed speeds of 200 mph and none other than Richard Petty was behind the wheel.)
