If I could afford both Fiesta and Focus they would each go in their own separate garage to be driven on a changed out basis.

I actually kind of liked the Cruze after seeing it at Autoshows early last year (it looks better in person). I doubt that opinion will hold when I go to Detroit next week. After seeing the Focus, and spy photos of the new Elantra, the Cruze is pretty much dead to me.

Just voted :)

Focus: 96%
Cruze: 2%
Equal: 2%

Cruze has no hatchback model.

Focus vs Chevy Orlando would be a pretty sad comparison. Maybe GM will bring us the Astra hatchback as a Buick.

This was already posted and commented in the Officel 2012 focus thread, but guess everyone missed it.

Well whats funny is those are some of the BEST pictures I have seen of the cruze. Most of the pics I saw were of the base model that just looks like a cheap POS. This seams to be top model to top model comparison....

I don't mind the "cleaner" interior of the cruze per say. As for everyone complaining about the focus having too many buttons, what do you expect! the car be loaded with more options than some BMW 7 series are sold with! The amazing thing to me is how FEWER buttons there are. if ford did not have the my ford Touch interface i don't think there would be room for all the buttons you would need for all the options!

The only buttons that seem unneeded on that model though are the HVAC. All the functions can probably be controlled by the touchscreen or by voice, so that is the one bit that seams un-needed and would clean up the dash quite a bit on myFord touch equipped cars.

As someone somewhere already commented, do these cars even compete? Chevy seams to be in the "value" class, and the focus seams to be in a "semi premium" class.

Cruze = Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra etc... class cars
Focus = Mazda 3, VW Jetta/rabbit/golf

They may have some cross over in the price overlap (someone looking at a loaded Cruze may look at a base model focus with a few options) but otherwise I don't know if they are true competitors other than they are the same size.

It's like comparing a Yaris to a Mini. Both small hatchbacks, but that's about all they have in common.

oh and since the first time I saw that poll the focus was in the high 90% range for votes. (I wish they showed how MANY people voted so far!

For anyone who hasn't gone through all 700+ posts, here are a few larger comparisons pictures I already posted in the other thread. By the way, while not as dramatic as the Focus shots, this is a top of the line LTZ model Cruze.

I personally like the Focus a lot better but I'm betting the Cruze will drive nicely, be very safe, have some nice options including the powertrain, be a fair amount less expensive in actual transaction prices and sell fairly well for GM. For a better comparison of a vehicle on the same platform I'd look towards the new Astra. Production wise it probably won't be brought over until a year or so after the next Focus is released (if it makes it at all), but on features, styling and price I'm betting it would go up against the upper trim levels of the new Focus much better than the Cruze.

To me the comparison of the Focus to the Cruze (I still hate the name) is like comparing a luxury car to a non luxury car.

The Cruise actually isnt that bad. It is poised to do well in the C segment. If it were on sale today, it easily tops anything on the road currently in C class.

The Focus is just on a different level. It just screams luxuorios and purposeful. Almost like the Focus is aimed at a Lexus or a BMW. Overkill and yet, desireable. Ford has defininetly brought a nuclear warhead to the knife fight.

Who will win on the market? That depends on a few things. Will the Focus have a comprable trim level that is with in spitting distance of the Cruise's prices? And if so, will it look bombed out and depleted w/o all of the bells and whistles found on the Titanium/SEL/SES trim levels? Or will the price differences allow Joe Sixpack to get a fully loaded Cruise instead of getting a Focus SE?

Just going from the pic's though, I would rather have the Focus. Thinking by value... I'd have to really compare both cars to decide. But that would be going against my already biased view of getting a Focus and it may also mean setteling on a car that I dont have any desire to own. Not gonna happen!

What people vote, and what they buy are two different things. Is the Focus a better car, yes. But I think the Chevy will still sell more because it offers more conservative styling (American's have not warmed up to hatches) and it will be most likely cheaper.
Guess you didn't see the 2012 Focus Sedan? IMO its far better looking to me then the hatchback

I've always been a Sedan Guy, though the exceptions for a Hatch would have to be a Golf, MK II Focus, MK I Focus, and Mondeo.

You think this comparison is unfair, did you see on the same site the Corolla comparison to the new Focus. Now that is brutally unfair. Poor ole Corolla looks like farm equipment in comparison.

Don't shoot me for saying this, but the more I've looked at the Cruze the more I can appreciate the styling. I had a very strong initial reaction to the car in a not so positive manner and it has now grown a little bit on me. At first the car looked so bland but at the same time had a little bit of that polarizing affect in the headlamps and how the grill cuts up into the hood. I'm still not a fan of the rear, in particular the tail lamp treatment and flow of the bumper cover, but it does have some nice lines to it just like the Cobalt had in the Sport/SS variants.

The problem being both those Chevrolets scream "yawn" in comparison to this new Focus although I can see how it will probably do well for GM. People buying reliable transportation appliances don't always shop first and foremost for cutting edge styling. As has been mentioned it will be interesting to see what the base models of each car looks like and how they stack up since historically those haven't been the strongest versions.

I'll still wait to see what the coupe or hatch version of the Cruze looks like a year or so after the sedan is released and also if they offer an SS version before I'd consider one. The new Focus on the other hand would be near the top of my list if I needed a new compact in the next year even without an equivalent ST/SVT/RS model, but as I don't need a regular compact I'll wait for that performance version.

When do you honestly expect to see the performance one in the USA though? Are there any plans for it, as if I remember correctly, the 09 & 10 versions never got the SVT treatment either...

Guys, you see the armrest in the photo above, well in front of it - is that a *** lighter, or a BMW style iDrive device knob? Maybe to control the Sat Nav/Stereo? If it's a *** lighter, it'll need a 12v delete blanking plate but it could look a little awkward placed there. I'm hoping it's a control knob.

I'm quite shocked how upmarket and stylish the new Focus looks outside, never mind inside. Easily the best looking model out there, and probably has the best engineering/dynamics also for the price.

Edit: The three *** word above is F.A.G. F.A.G is a cigarette in English. 'F.A.G. Lighter' in a car, is the 12v device you press down, or like
a Zippo you carry on your person.
