THIS is a 2009 MS3:

;)
Interesting. I assumed it was an '09 as the guy had his car before I got my WRX, and I picked that up in April '09. And she is an '09! I just searched 2010 MS3, and that is what he has. The above pictured MS3 is the bodystyle I like. The smiley face can eat a bullet. :p

Wanted to give some quick input -

I traded in my 2001 ZX3 for a slightly used 2008 VW GTI 4-door (10k miles on it...really brand new inside and out) three years ago and I really enjoy the car. It is not as "in your face" as say a Speed3 or WRX but it is understated and slightly more mature. It is not he fastest or best handling of the bunch you are looking at...but you could say the same about a SVT Focus back in 2004....GTI is the SVT focus of today: it does everything well.

Top Gear said "it's the type of unassuming car you can leave on the street knowing it won't be vandalized yet take it to a five star hotel and they will open the door for you"

All depends what you are looking for :)

Johnny P,
Having owned and driven a 2008+2009 Mini Cooper S for 2.5 years I can agree with you on the quirks of the car to remain faithful to the original Mini Cooper. All of the car magazines have similar complaints too_Once you go through the owner's manual you can set up functions on how you want them to be.My cars were a blast to drive and my 2009 MCS was rock solid.Unfortunately in the area where I live the car was invisible and I always had people merging in my lane while I was there.Very tiring and dangerous at the same time.Plus the ride is very stiff with the run flat tires and stiff suspension (a trade off for excellent "go cart" handling). You can't beat the 3 years/36K free factory scheduled maintenance which covers everything including wearable items with the exception of the tires on the car.VW now offers similar coverage called Carefree Maintenance but it is only for scheduled checks, oil changes and tire rotations nothing else.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with either the Mini Cooper S or VW GTI.It just comes down to what you want.:)

Keep us updated when you can.

today i put a deposit on......

a 2010 GTI! Got a great price on it, much lower than the Mini, and a great finance rate. I'll hopefully take ownership of it tomorrow after work, I'm stoked!

Side note but the turn signal thing you experienced in the MINI is becoming more and more common. I think it started in Europe and I believe it is on the new Fiesta, actually

Yes! details please....color, 2/4door, options.....

I saw a brand new 2010 black 2 door with the 18" huffs yesterday and almost drove over the the dealer and traded mine in on it

Its a red 2 door, manual trans, and only options are xenon headlights and moonroof. The 18" wheels are OK, but I'm not a huge fan of the way they look. I'd rather get some nicer aftermarket wheels for it and put summer tires on, and keep the stock 17" wheels for winter driving :)

Make sure to get it chipped/flashed with a performance tune.
Best mod in which you can actually feel the power difference.

Just get a flash from a local dealer since most of them are pretty much the same when it comes to performance.
Sometimes, the VW dealer provides flashes.

You might want to get a catch can ASAP.
*Read up on Direct Engine deposits.

One thing you may hate about the GTI is the black soot on the tail pipe that requires regular cleaning/polishing due to the rich tuning.
So, don't be alarmed if a friend is behind you and you punch it and they tell you they see black smoke puff out.
The diesel/clicking sound of the engine is normal (loud DI injectors).

I get this too every now and then (under hard acceleration) and it is almost impossible to keep the exhaust clean it is so sooty.

well the deal with the red one fell through, but I picked up a black one yesterday!

2 door, sunroof, and xenon headlights. I'm loving it. Its a blast to drive, and handles great even with the stock 17's and all season tires! I'll share some pictures of it once I get my camera working :)

Thanks to everyone who provided input in this thread!

^^Even better.Congrats and enjoy your new ride which I know you are.
