Found out driving home today that although my catch can on the PVC side is capable of withstanding the heat, it cannot handle the vaccum and the lid caved in. Oops  Good thing I kept the original hose in the car just incase. Back to the drawing board

Man, just read the thread - sucks about the great balls of ice from the sky... but can't wait to see what you do with it in the interim. CF top on that car would be the business, brother.

Top-notch work on the headlights, they look - dare I say - Professional. :D

Keep up the good work, and do you have an ETA on the CF goodies?

Still waiting in line to fix the hail damage with paintless dent repair. There were a lot of claims so they're pretty backed up for a while. Insurance said no to the replacement hood/trunklid.

When they fix the dents they'll be tinting it too, then it'll probably be snowing

I love Hyundais, especially the 06-07 Sonata. I rented one of those things, and hit 144 in it on the speedo, not sure what the actual really was. When I got home and did some research, it seems I could have gone faster. Some folks were getting close to 150 in stock'ish form. From a lil ol Sonata. That's awesome.

Nice ride - I love those things. I had no idea they were offered with a 2.0T motor in them. Pretty good poop?

Great choice brotha! A turbocharged RWD sexy coupe is just hard to not love. I test drove a 2.0T Track model a while back and was sincerely impressed. That engine makes LOADS of torque down low. I'm sure a little help in the form of an intake, TBE, and tune would make a world of difference. And they sound nice.

Question: Why not opt for the R-Spec model? IIRC it's all the good of the Track model without the tuxedo of the Track model.

Also, what little research I've done has lead me to believe that you have a decent chance of serious transmission issues. In particular, 2nd gear freaking out and eventually becoming unusable. If I was Hyundai and you limped in one day complaining of a faulty transmission, but had 75wtq over stock I would have quite a hard time replacing anything under warranty. Makes me wonder about mods.

In any case, keep us posted with your progress. And hey, maybe the dents from the hail will lower your drag coefficient like a golf ball's surface. If that's the case perhaps you should buy a hammer and just finish the job mother nature started.

HTM, I wonder if all of the dents helps the drag coefficient, in the same way that a Golf ball is aided by the dents?

Just a thought. :p

No R-Spec for Canadians :( Trust me if the R-Spec was available I'd have one. We get 3 trim choices for each motor, base, premium and GT. This will be fine though as I didn't want the 19s or Brembos either. We get the LSD on every V6 model unlike the US which hopefully means I'll be more likely to find a used one from a wrecked V6 within a year or two.

The transmissions issues the cars were having have gone away for the most part and I'm pretty sure it was mostly younger V6 owners rat-bagging theier cars "look at me I'm-a driftin' Yeee-haw!" I've noticed the Genesis community generally fits into the "I mistakenly believe I drive a better, faster car than anyone and I'll try to prove it at every red light" category, kind of like the SRT-4. I haven't even spun my tires yet. Even with the bolt-ons I want and a tune I'll be sitting at around 260whp/290wtq which is still within the 6-speed's limits. The clutch tends to lose it at 300wtq. Since I don't bag on my car it'll be just fine, if not I'll buy another clutch down the road.

Cool!

Sorry to hear about the lameness of the community of drivers though. Oh well, those guys will just have a beat up car down the road.
Bolt-ons can net that much WHP?? Sheesh.

Just the $450 Dynojet CMD unit with 550cc injectors nets around 222whp/276wtq with the ability to fine tune yourself as you upgrade with a decent tuning community to help out.

In all likelyhood just the tuner and a turboback will get me where I want to be for under $1000 total. That should be more than adequate until the LS engine kits are ready (there is already one being produced which will retain all factory features and guages)

The factory tune in the car really is the car's weak point. Hyundai was being cautious with this engine being thier first facotry turbo effort. The ECU litterally cuts off everything at 5250rpm and the car falls flat on it's face. You get a huge push of torque from 2500rpm and the car keeps pushing then BAM!, you just hit 5250rpm, may as well change gears now. This ECU piggyback tuner bypasses the engine nanny which kills the power, but lets you retain alll the modern knock sensors, fuel sensors, etc that were engineered right.

I'm currently putting together all my Focus parts to make a post in the for sale section, then I can start with the upgrades as I sell Focus parts. I didn't realise how much crap I had kicking around from my Foci

Hmm, I was under the impression that the CMD wasn't that great. Additional custom tuning can be added with that too?

Doesn't ProAxel or someone like that offer something as well?

We should dig up that old Genesis thread that was on here like a year ago with all the modded ones from overseas to spark your ideas on how to visually sexify your car.

*runs and searches*

Found it finally! :D

In order to do a reflash I would have to send in my ECU to Poweraxel or find a shop that is an authorized Poweraxel dealer which we don't have within 1000kms. The CMD is a piggyback device but it puts up similar numbers. It's able to be adjusted on your laptop and gives you the ability to make your own adjustments on the fly.

The other nice feature is that I can find another Genesis owner with identical mods to mine, and simply download his tune to get started. If I were to start with exhaust and intake mods, I could tune for that, then if I were to increase injector size I could tune for that, etc. Instead of having to go reflash every time I do another mod for about $400 in dyno time a pop. There is also an autotuner for the CMD that will read out everything the car is doing and adjust the tune itself as you drive.

The downside to the CMD is it can't control timing out of the box, the factory ECU remains in complete control of the timing and VVCT. There is an add-on however that will let you control timing, but at the power levels I'm looking to acheive it's not an important feature. If I were going to upgrade the turbo and do cams I would get the add-on.

Sounds kinda scary. Either it or you in control of everything I mean. I would rather trust some genius tuner guy to make adjustments. I guess it works though as long as safety parameters are strict.

Really though that's part of the reason I like the piggyback idea, at least for now. If I do something that will kill the car in my tuning, the car will simply say "Who the @#$ divided by zero?" and put itself into limp mode. Takes away alot of the danger. I know what the stock internals can handle, and anytime I do anything I usually spend a good week reading about it before I even attempt it. As I get better at it and know what to do and what not to do I can start digging deeper and eventually look at getting the timing module and all that crap. The ability to upgrade as I go with the CMD is pretty appealing, and honestly I have no access to a PA dealer so it's about the only choice I have up here. The Dynojet guys are very active in Forums as well and have always been quick to answer any questions about fine tuning and what does what.
