Hi,

First time here folks, wondering if any of you can help me, I have searched the previous forums but not found any new suggestions.

The noise happens at slow speeds when turning right, either into driveway or parking space. The noise is located in the front left wheel area and is really loud aswell as really irritating.

Earlier this year I have changed the wheel bearings on the left side and had a new wishbone fitted also on the left side.

It had a problem a few years ago with the steering rack, which I had changed and had checked recently to see if it was that. Just this weekend had new lowering springs fitted and the noise had gone for a little while but came back after going right in a multi-storey car park.

It is lowered 50mm all round with 17" ST170 Alloys on it, it has been on this set up for around 10 years and never had the problem before.

Its quite frustating that its still here, its developed about 4 weeks ago now, ive not changed anything on it to cause it.

Ive looked around the arch and underneath and cannot see anything out of the ordinary.

It is a 2000 1.6 Zetec S (UK) if that helps.

Many Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the 'Jet! :)

CV joint perhaps?

or cv/drive axle..
mine is 2000 and doing exact same as what you were describing..

Given that it's been a while since you posted this I assume its been found and sorted.

I put up with the same issue on my 2003 Zetec 2.0. It did the same thing, grinding on full lock right turns and ended up doing it over most bumps as well.

It's not CV's, they usually wobble a bit when they are giving out.

It's most likely the hydrolic engine mount (big one near the water surge tank) that has leaked and given out on the inside. They are only good for about 60,000k's.

Cost about $330 from Ford Australia and ended up installing it myself. It's not a particularly hard job.

does it kinda sound like when you run over those rumble strips on the interstate , the ones to keep you from falling asleep and going off the road
does it do it more when the engine and/or outside temp is cold
and does it do it on the interstate if you go over a bridge or something and the car kinda hops
mine might be doing the same thing .
hydraulic engine mount?
does the US spec focus have that?

Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. Mine is doing the same thing. I was thinking CV joint. Can anyone confirm the fix?
