We decided to take a more detailed approach with judging for Focus Rising 2012. Here are a few of the details.

  • Judges cars are NOT eligible for FR12 judging
  • Five judges total, each judge will score each car individually. Judges will not be revealed until the day of the show so they won't be harassed about judging before. I am the lead judge and I can not be swayed. :p
  • Each scorecard is 100 points so there will be 500 points possible to earn
  • The following classes will be decided by scores from the scorecards.
    - Best 00-04 Sedan
    - Best 00-04 Hatch
    - Best 00-07 Wagon
    - Best 02-04 SVT
    - Best 05-07 Sedan
    - Best 05-07 Hatch
    - Best 08-11 Sedan/Coupe
    - Best 2012+ All
    - Best in Engine Bay
    - Best in Paint
    - Best in Exterior
    - Best in Interior
    - Best in Wheels
    - Best in Audio/ICE
    - Best Fiesta
    - Best Non-Focus/Fiesta
    - Best Beater Focus
    - Best Conversion (SVT, ST170, Etc...)
    - Best RS Focus Conversion
  • The following classes will be decided by the method shown to the right of each class
    - Best in Race Prepped - Judges agreement on showfield
    - Best in Boost - Judges agreement on showfield
    - Best in Stance - Judges agreement at BBQ
    - Lowest Focus - Decided by Limbo contest
    - Best Theme - Judges agreement on showfield
    - Game Changer Award - Judges agreement on showfield
    - Focus Rising Legacy Award - Ken's decision
    - Longest Distance - Whoever drove the longest distance
    - Sponsor/Affiliate/Partner Picks - Decided by each sponsor or a representative for said sponsor
  • Scorecard results will be available after the awards ceremony. Please do not ask for them the day of the event. We will email you the scores afterwards.
  • Judges ruling is final. In the case of a tie, Ken will be the deciding vote.

Finally, here is the actual scorecard. Please use this scorecard when preparing for FR12. This is how we will be judging each car. Do notice how many times "clean" is listed throughout the scorecard. PLEASE TAKE THAT ADVICE!

Exterior Quality - 15 points
What is the quality of the bodywork and paint? If the bodywork has been altered, has it been done well? Is the finish just shiny or deep and lustrous? Is the paint smooth or orange peeled? Any overspray, runs, ripples, etc.? Dents? Chips? Are bodykit seams smooth and straight? All panels aligned? Any doors sagging? Bumpers on straight? Glass squeaky clean? All cars should have a perfect cleaning and waxing.

Interior Quality - 15 points
Is everything in good condition or truly excellent? Are the seats perfect and clean or ripped and dirty? Is the headliner intact and tight or drooping and baggy? Are the carpets clean and new looking or dirty and worn? Have modifications, such as gauges or aftermarket seats, been hacked in, or are they professional looking? Are the sun visors in good shape? Door panels? Every piece of the interior should be perfectly clean and prepared; there should be no dirt under the floor mats or junk under the seats. Look at the trunk or hatch. It should be prepared to the same perfect state as the interior.

Mechanical/Engine Quality - 10 points
Does everything look neat and well put together? Is the quality of the workmanship good or great? Are there special features that deserve points? Are the systems securely mounted? Do the systems work together harmoniously, i.e. do they appear to flow into one another or are they just shoved somewhere? Is the exhaust system solid, or about to fall off? Are there any fluid leaks? Is the engine compartment perfectly clean and detailed?

Suspension Quality - 15 points
What is the extent of modifications to the suspension, and are they well done? Front and rear stress bars? Camber plates? Special springs and shocks? Coilovers? Special bushings? Anti-roll (sway) bars? Are the brake calipers/rotors/drums in great shape? If there was a brake modification was it well done?

Wheels/Tires/Stance - 15 points
Do the wheels and tires fit the overall look/theme of the car? Does the wheel and tire matchup fit the stance of the vehicle. Are the wheels coated in brake dust? Is the finish of the wheels perfect or are the wheels scuffed? Do the tires shine or are they scuffed and dirty?

Cleanliness - 10 points
Every part of the car from front to back and top to bottom should be clean. Things that should be shiny should shine. Things that should be polished should be polished. This includes the trunk or hatch; the glove box, the grille, the doorsills, and under the floor mats. No fabric or leather should show stains of any kind.

Overall Concept And Integration - 10 points
This is a subjective category that needs some thought. The point here is the total quality of the car in all of the categories above, and how well everything hangs together. A million-dollar paint job with a poor interior does not score high. Full engine work, but no suspension work should not score highly. Age consideration should be factored into scoring. A brand new pristine car with few miles might score lower than a 10 year old car with over 100K miles and a few blemishes.

Display/Theme - 10 points
You should provide a display documenting the car, showing special systems, recording the work in progress, dressing up the display area, etc. Displays can be entertaining, informative, or both. This is a good place to pick up what may be a crucial number of points. No display, no points.

100 points total
I am sure I will need to make clarifications to this, so watch this thread if there are any. Also please feel free to post any questions you might have.

Looks like my car won't have a chance in hell at winning anything  After driving from FL, the last thing I'm going to want to do is give it another full detail lol

Jeeez you should know the Car WaRsh is right down the street :D

Josh, you have a chance at winning the lowest Focus Limbo.
^Chris speaks truths!

Josh, I did a full detail the night before in 2010 and 2011. Hell, I was waxing Sonic in the parking lot on Friday night while everyone was drinking and having a good time. I was still in the conversations, just getting work done at the same time.
^This guy, he done got his cleaned up with a beer in hand!

Ya, Josh limbo is the only thing I have any chance at winning either. But even then, it's unlikely. I'm just going to see if I can tuck my HRE's up front and poke them out back because focus is rwd racear lol.

-Matt

Jason and Ken, you obviously don't remember FL's way of doing things. We show up, start drinking, stay up way too late, give the car a spray wax wipedown at 7AM, show up for the caravan late after hungover-ly yelling at the Dunkin Donuts bitch that only served Pepsi in bottles, didn't have Coke from a fountain dispenser, then continued to hungover-ly wipe the car down on the showfield before saying **** it and going off to find food....leaving the car about half clean.

At least that's how I did it in 2010 when I had my car there

PS -- If you need a koozie, you're not drinking your beer fast enough.

Well, I thought that an official judging format would help people step up their game but it seems it's just making people tuck their tail and run instead.

Everyone spends so much time modifying their car, but all they need to do is spend some time.cleaning it as well. That's just as important as modifying. Before I make the drive out I do a full detail and then do touch ups out there. There is nothing hard about doing that.

No, it'll make probably 80-90% step up and clean. Or at least I hope it does.

I am a "special" case, I know my car is a good 5-10 foot car...the miles have not been nice to my car, and I neglected it for a little while and it shows when you look up close. I'm just letting you know in advance that there's a good chance my car will be on the showfield somewhat dirty with the windows up and the car locked

What if my rear bumper is panther black and the rest of the car is pitch black? Can I still win longest drive?!

I plan on making a little board/sign displaying my cars age (12 years) and mileage (190k). I too have a 5-10ft stunner, but up close and personal, you can she she has been around the block many times.

5-10 foot stunners with wheels so clean you eat off them, but the cars themselves....not so much.

Sorry I/we ruined your thread Jason

It's decided, I'm going to be a judge just so I can mark you off for that :p

Funny enough, my rear bumper lights are painted with panther black. Awesome color. You should get your car painted to match your bumper.

X2, sounds the Mid-A Low Beater Crew plans on doing the same as between the two in the group so far they both have stories worth telling.

I disagree with aforementioned coozie comments.

We should have a "period 2004-2006" award for mad tyte bodykits yo.
