Eh, we're all into different things. I think that's cool.

I don't do sports unless I'm suckin' down beer and greasy food, in which case, GAME ON!

Day three of paint, coming along nicely, just slowly. It's a good thing I waited for some warm weather or this would have taken forever. Worst case scenario, I will be done tomorrow, best case, today, though I doubt it.
I haven't seen any of it. For once, I actually want to be surprised. :D

Morning Norcal....I need some breakfast and some tea. This has been strange; I'm not anywhere near as sick as I was with Genna, but I'm still getting gnarly cramps. They wake me up in the middle of the night. :-/ Other than that, the weather is really nice today and Genna was excited to wear her capris. :D

Micah, I don't think you're weird at all. Radio announcers do a MUCH better job of actually announcing the game than TV announcers do. Watching the TV and listening to the radio is the best of both worlds.

... as long as you have beer and greasy food, too

Can't wait to see that beast all gussied up, Ryan!!

i can't tell you how many times that Gif has benen sent to me. Most of the time its with a KFC bucket. Poor Poor Pablo.

Speaking of good news.... buttoned up and drove the Focus for the first time since the clutch flew apart at the track day. I didn't get my flywheel back until Tuesday!

The bad news is that I either broke my flex pipe at the track day, or it somehow broke from the engine sitting crooked in the bay for weeks.... because I've got a nasty exhaust leak.

...the good news is that I have a brand new flexpipe in the cabinet already paid for.

I'll probably fix the broken one... nice to have a spare, and welding in a flex section is a whole lot cheaper than the entire thing!

The Clutchmaster FX300 has a slightly narrower engagement zone than my Luk Pro Gold, but the pedal is actually lighter (probably because it isn't worn yet).

Well, that's definitely a bad news/good news situation. I drove The Princess to the gym on Tuesday. I took the long way. Feels good to get her juices flowing.

BTW, Lorin, I had to put the stock tune back on again. Something went wonky with the latest tune. It was solid for about a week or two. Good 18-20 psi spike, holding 16 psi to redline, good AF/Rs and no ST/KR. Two weeks is only having driven it a couple of times, but onces I got the LCA bushing in and went for a test drive that night, I started getting what feels like either fuel cut, or spakr blowout/interuption. Very weird. I know it's tune related (not enough fuel, or too much boost=spark blowout). I need to go back to gapping down I think.

New plugs and wires wouldn't hurt. I also have a new fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter ready to go in it.

We'll see...

Morning Norcal!!!!!!
I had an interesting day at work yesterday. I truely found out who the Axis is ( :( ) and who my Allies are.( :) ) The tire tracks from the bus that I was thrown under is effecting my work additude today.

We are heading off for the week-end celedrating our #5 anniversary. Monterey and Pacific Grove, here we come.

I wouldn't run extra boost until you get a solid wastegate actuator solution. That thing sucks.
I don't know. I really think that issue was with that tune before. I know the waste gate wasn't able to keep all that boost under control at such low RPMs, but the stock waste gate can hold 16-17 psi until something like 5000 RPM. Seems like plenty of spring to me. The DSP performance tune is designed to run on a stock waste gate.

I also have a CROM that's three versions newer between the Oregon trip and now. They've made some massive improvements. I think I just need to do my maintenance items (FPR/FF, new plugs, oil feed crush washer) and load the Perf tune and do a bunch of datalogging. I don't recall hearing that fluttering/serge when the new tune was installed.

Sucks. It really was running solid, then something happened. Just don't know what .

just remember to check the transmission fluid while your down there. I'm so used to being thrown under the buss that no day would be complete without it.

i'm like that when Cait does that stuff. i have a very simular reaction.

Not all springs are equal, and barometric pressure varies from day to day with temperature and altitude. That wastegate spring sucks and is a known SRT-4 issue. I can't see how a tune could make the actual mechanical boost needle flutter around. It is your car of course, but I think you're wasting your time trying to dial in any sort of tune with that actuator. It might not be *the* fix, but it is a weak point that I feel should be addressed. :)

I agree with most of that. It's just strange that everyone I talk to that "knows what they are talking about" seem to suggest either the stock, FM (relatively mild) or stage 2 WGA, again, because the DSP was designed for a stock waste gate. Also, you mentioned altitude. We were in some altitude on that trip when we were experiencing that surge. Low RPM, at altitude WOT will probably give you flutter, no matter the WGA, no? The turbo is just too small/engine too big for that.

I'll continue to try and make it work with the current hardware, only because I have spent too much money on other "stuff" I felt was more important.

I don't ever go WOT at below 2200 RPM anyway, I simply down-shift, so It's sort of a non-isue for me. In the future, I may look into an FM unit.

There shouldn't be bugs, no matter what the condition. That's my perspective as an engineer... that's also how the OEMs see it.

The wastegate fluttering doesn't have anything to do with turbo or engine size, it just means that the pre-wastegate exhaust backpressure is greater than the actuator's ability to hold the wastegate shut... so it blows open, which causes boost to drop to the point where it closes, and the cycle starts again, which causes oscillation. It is purely a hardware problem, induced by software.

Conditions further vary as such things as the flexibility of the diaphragm changes with temperature and the atmospheric pressure on both the backside of the diaphragm and the exhaust outlet change. Something like going from crap weather to nice weather can induce a change.
