I'm trying to follow the instructions from focushacks.com. I think I understand all of it, but when I try to connect the hose to the Low-pressure A/C recharge port, it hisses and some kind of gas sprays out.

Am I doing something wrong?

normally, the recharge fitting is unscrewed. you snap it onto the lowside port and then tighten the fitting down to engage the system. The reason its hissing out is you are opening the line without having the fitting fully secured.

The hissing is normal then? So do I just have to keep pushing when the hissing starts? Is this just like attaching a pump to a bike tire where a little bit leaks out when the connection is made?

Oh, and it's not a screw-type fitting (on the recharge kit). It's a pullback collar that snaps forward into place to secure the connection.

if its leaking by when its fully connected than the O ring in the fitting is leaking. you dont want to keep using it because you'll lose more than you'll put in.

i did the same thing. i put freon but when i pulled out the hose with the gauge, i heard it spray. i put gloves on and put my finger on the top of the lowside port and thats where it was leaking from. is it just the port the o-ring as TXFO said or it could be something else?

I just recharged the AC on my 2002 Focus. Someone had cut a large v shaped notch in the front of the wheel well splash guard (probably the guy at the dealer the last time the AC was recharged LOL) so the AC fill fitting was easy (haha) to reach. I still jacked up the car and removed the wheel so I could read the gauge better and not kink the hose from the R134 can.
