I did a little research on Fun Ford Weekend:

1. They hold multiple events a year at mostly drags strips (it seems) around the country. So, by nature, they aren't "National" events.

2. It looks like they are recently under new management, and that is because they weren't doing that great.

3. I found this thread, which says that even the new owners haven't been able to turn the tide, at least yet:

Some of my favorite quotes:

"I didnt know they still did those."

"… from the looks of the recap photos, it doesn't look like the attendance is very good."

It's a regional drag event at best. And ZERO competition for Carlisle.

Ken, I know that Clor has mentioned FFW to me before. But, I don't know what Ford's involvement is with it. It surely can't be as large as what they do with you guys. I hope they do support it and that Clor attends both. It will only solidify who does it Bigger and Better.

FFW doesn't seem like it will draw a crowd, but their choice of location is good. STL is centrally located in the US and can pull people from many states. They did have a decent turnout for their event last time in KY even though there was nothing much going on with it.

I want to know how Ben plans to put on an autocross at the drag strip during another event.

Especially at FFW where you typically see some bitchers about the track getting messed up from someone hitting the wall, I'm sure like an accident the bitchers would not be too happy about some 4-bangers messing up the lanes with their side to side none-sense they call auto-x.

While it will be better, we want it to be better AND bigger! That means we need to draw more people to our event. We have the east coast covered pretty good, but we need to draw people from the midwest as well. Most of the people in this area might want to go to FailFest because it is closer. We need to entice them to go to FR13 instead.

That means we need to be ambassadors in the community. We need to try and unite people and not hate on FF, or its members (at least in public  ) in an effort to get people on the fence, or already leaning towards FailFest to come to ours instead.

Most people can only afford one trip like this a year, so this will be our challenge.

Well it's really going to come down to how many people are willing to make the drive... You see people complaining that it's not on the West coast... I posted Nicks thread about him driving and no one said anything.

So the issue lies is that it's on the far east coast. The people that have been there before know why they go, and know why they keep coming back. It's just an awesome time, that is truly centered around the Focus, and the group of people that represent it proudly. I've only been there twice, and I absolutely love it. I convinced a lot of people to go last year and they all loved it. So it's really going to be word of mouth of previous attendees that will have to help us out with this.

For people to be willing to make the drive they need to know the drive is worth it. Yes, you are correct that word of mouth of previous attendees is what will help. The problem is people tend to reminisce about the previous event with the next one just a month or two away. We need to start up some threads now about our previous trips to FR. Not just the event itself, but the journey to the event. Most people don't look forward to a drive that could be 8-20 hours long, but with our caravans, it is worth it for them to join.

Lets start letting them know it is worth it asap.

We could try and do something there as well. We can have more than one event going on at once since people have different tastes. At Jetfest 05 we had a road rally on Saturday that was going on the same time as the car show, so I'm sure we could find someone to take reigns of formal competition for the focuses at the drag event.

Your thoughts Ron?
