I am already planning this caravan to get as many people on board as possible. The caravan to Focus Rising is a large part of the experience as well, and you don't want to miss out on the caravans that go through Tulsa headed East!
Back in 2005 the California crew stopped at my house for the evening on the way to Jetfest 2005 in South Bend, Indiana:
Tribal and the great Pumpkin were inside the trailer with econorocket's car in the background:
Airforcefocus also drove out with his car:
There were about 10 people who crashed at my place that night before continuing their adventure to the meet:
We kept picking up cars along the way too:
In 2012 we had another great caravan, this time to Focus Rising. A longer trip to PA compared to the trip to Jetfest, but we still had a great start to our caravan headed East.
Five cars were leaving Tulsa for the trip with two of those from CA/AZ:
Of course we had dinner the night before when everyone arrived at my house:
We drove all day and stopped at Draconnix's house, just outside of Indianapolis, about a 9 hour drive. It's POSSIBLE to push through from Tulsa to Carlisle in one day of driving, but no one wants to push themselves for 19 hours straight, so we split the drive out there into two days to make it more fun for everyone. When we got to Draconnix's house, we met up with many more Focus owners from other parts of the Midwest:
The caravan left the following morning to finish the trip to Carlisle nine cars strong:
We continued East and picked up a few more Focuses in Ohio and WV. We had to stop for gas in WV and also needed some food. Wait, what's this?
Yes, many of us have never had Quaker Steak and Lube before, so it was a group decision, no quick lunch, lets rest and chow down...on some Triple Atomic Wings! lol
The caravan out to Focus Rising is one of the best parts. Plus driving out with many other Focus owners instead of alone means you have people to rely on if something goes wrong.
In 2012 Nick felt an odd vibration coming from one of his wheels. A couple of us drove along side him and noticed his wheel was wobbling a little. We stopped at the next rest stop, removed the wheel, and noticed he threw a weight. But in the process we saw one of his other tires was corded. With the help of a few people, we had two wheels swapped out and back on the road in less than 20 minutes. It's best to travel in groups in case issues like this arise, and when we travel, everyone has an FRS radio for easy communication with each other.
The 2013 Carlisle Ford Nationals is from June 7th-9th, so here is the rough schedule for our caravan to Focus Rising. If you want to join along, just let us know. The more people that join, the better!
Wednesday June 5th: Leave Ataru's house just outside Tulsa around 7am and head up I-44 to I-70 near ST Louis then continue to Ft. Wayne to DereKincaid's house.
MAP
With stops for gas, this should put us in Ft Wayne around 7-8pm
Thursday June 6th: Leave DereKincaid's house in Ft Wayne around 7am and head up I-30 towards Carlisle, PA
