I was taking things moderately serious G. Just been reading an following, not forgetting.

I had thought that maybe the noise was an electrical arc. A busted ground on the horn, at the clock spring, might cause a clicking/snapping. I figure you'd know that should vs what you are/were experiencing though. Still worth a mention.
And actually now that I have, I wonder if it could be the clock spring itself? I haven't had one apart/out, so I'm not use if it could cause that kind of noise.

It's the "behind the dash" that has me kinda stumped. I haven't found anything back there that moves. And most anything further forward, I think you'd know the sound. SO my thought was it's something in the cabin, and I just can't come up with anything.

Things I can tell you though,
The gauges are electric. If they move, there is no issue in the cluster, assuming all lights work.
There is 1 bearing in the steering column and 1 U-joint.
There are no moving or rotating parts behind the cluster.

Actually, when I first read the thread I though; ah, he's got a rock in the Wheel Speed Sensor. But if that were the case it would have broke the sensor by now and an ABS light would have popped up.

But the suspension compression thing, that sounds more like an end link popped loose. Actually, maybe that's what it is. Pull a wheel and have a look.

Now this AWD K20 ****box,

I thought there was a guy in the TC's that has one, or maybe it's a K24 (doubtful). I do know there's a K swapped Fit though (SOB is quick too!).

Thanks for thinking it over, John... I was just trying to be humorous early in the morning, maybe that "complaint" didn't sound quite like I meant it to.

The end link theory made sense, but I checked them and they are both attached. The noise is occurring much less often now, so whatever it is has worn almost away from whatever it was hitting.

Thanks for the link! I'm trying not to be envious of that car, it must be a riot, as long as he can keep the U-joints solid...

I'm trying to think what all can rattle around in our dash...
I have see a vent cage broken that rattled, but that was pretty easy to pin point.

Have you had your dash apart for any reason?
I've been trying to answer that same question... what moves in there, and what moves that also scrapes on a rotation object that spins with road speed??? Nothing, right?

I haven't taken the dash apart, but will get the car in the air later this week or weekend. I promise to tell what I find.

Well, we got it in the air and looked as carefully as possible at anything that could hit a wheel, axel, or brake rotor... nothing stood out, no signs of wear on anything, and actually I saw nothing even close. I'm going to go with the guess that it was a stone stuck somewhere that wore away. The sound is gone, except for the rare occasion of turning hard right and fully collapsing the suspension on the drivers side by driving over a large bump, even then it only happens for a moment and not every time.

Thanks to all who ventured a guess. I'm going to live with it for now, maybe it will show itself when I change springs/struts, brakes, or bearings in the future.
