So I am getting this really nasty noise coming from the passenger side of the engine. I pulled the valve cover and everything appears to be in order there. Could this be the passenger motor mount? There is a clunking noise which follows engine speed. Also the car can barely move itself. You have to give it some throttle to get it to start, and I was about at WOT backing up my driveway.

If it is the mount, is this the part "Mount, focus, front - 2.0l sohc - 2.0L SOHC" on the Tousley page what I need? There is no exploded diagram for it. Car is an 01 SE w/ about 120k on it.

Thanks folks.

A motor mount wont cause it to have problems with going somewhere...that would be something in the motor.

any CEL?

Motor mount? Ha! you wish it was that simple.

Sounds like a victom of valve seat drop.

Hmm. Bent electrode on #3 spark plug. Looking more like valve seat drop.
If you need a new piston when you get into the repairs, let me know. I have a stock pile of them & they are on backorder from ford.

The engine may not be junk. I just fixed one of these. It was cheaper to get new pistons & a reman head for it than buy an engine. The only thing to worry about is if the cylinder walls get damaged.

Also make sure that cylinders 1 & 4 don't have damage as well. I think what hapened is your cylinder number 3 dropped the seat and a piece went into the intake manifold and then into cylinder #2.

You can wet test cylinders # 1 & 4 by turning the engine so they are about mid way in the cylinder and then fill them with an inch of oil. If the oil is gone by the next day then those pistons are damaged too.

Make sure to get the rods checked as well. If you need any help sourcing parts let me know as it took a while to find a std piston set.

OK, Looking for a little help here. Got a replacement motor, but I can't remember where all the hoses and such go. Check out the attached pics.

It's been so long since the engine was together I forgot where the pipe that runs across the top goes. Also there is another port on the valve cover that is a mystery.

Anything go into the bottom of the air box? I didn't think so, but could be mistaken

This hose is a coolant hose off of the water pump. Figured out where the other two hoses connect, but am missing this one.

Lastly on this one here, I'm wondering if anyone knows which ports are for what on the intake manifold. I've got two that right now have no hoses to connect to them. :bang:

TIA

I'd recommend buying a Haynes or (begins with a C, I even have one!) manual - all of this stuff is in there and they don't cost much, ~$15-20 from Amazon.

The ports at the back are:
1 (usually a large one) for the PCV hose from the front of the engine
1 (also usually large) for a fuel something or other on the firewall (should be behind the powersteering fluid reservoir)
3 small - 1 to the fuel thing on the firewall, 1 to the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail, 1 to the DPFE sensor
If there's one spare that's fine, just plug it with a vacuum nipple

All of the above is for the Zetec engine (what I have) so I don't know if all of it applies to the SPI (the fuel pressure regulator in particular)

Matt, you're thinking of the Chilton manual.

Anyway, doesn't the port on the valve cover connect to the small port on the airbox? I believe that's the valve cover breather port.
that's the one, I knew it began with a "C" (thought it was Clifford for some reason!).

You're right, the port on the valve cover does connect to the port on the airbox. The ports I was talking about are on the back of the intake manifold (last picture), though it does look a lot different to the Zetec manifold so I'm not 100% sure what goes where.

And that's a cursed IACV I see there too, wish the Zetec one was as easy to get to

holy begeezus...this happened to my car (go figure!!!) which is a 2000 SE (which I'm thinking may stand for S#!TTY EDITION). DO NOT BUY AN ENGINE FROM MARSHALLS ENGINES...THEY SUCK! Just throwing that out there. I have the same motor you do and in your first pic the long hose that runs in the back of the engine goes to the breather box you have in the third picture. The little pipe on the right side of the pic has a hose that runs from there down the back of the engine and toward the passenger side to hook on another pipe down there somewhere...it'll only fit one way so make sure the parts manager can tell you which way to put it on (the parts manager I talked to didn't know how to install the thing!) And, if I could have, and would have thought about it before hand, I would have bought a DOHC with the transmission stuff and the computer or whatever it needed and installed it...my SPI has about 6000 miles on the new motor and the CEL is on...something about a vacuum leak that I can't find or it might be an ignition issue or a damaged O2 sensor before the cat...or leaking/messed up fuel injectors...watch for the vacuum issue (revs hanging when the clutch is pushed in while driving) because I don't know how to fix it...i keep getting code P0171...not sure if this makes sense or helps but good luck with it.
