I'm seriously digging the new window treatment... usually a sorespot with me on a lot of cars.

I'm a little skeptical on the rear end as of yet. I love the stubby end the current sedan has... but this better clean up when the camo's gone

needs a drop :)

damn right. that C30 will be amazing!!! I'm gettin one for sure. I'm gonna hold off a year in hopest they make a R version with AWD but who knows...
this focus looks ok, but too much like a pontiac g6...I wonder how the interior will look, though?!? Hopefully a ****ton better than current.
I also went to the dealership to ask em about it and they knew nothing. He didn't even think they were restyling it nor did he know they were doing away with hatches...what an idiot!! oh well!

That article mentions nothing about "no more hatch".....where did you come up with this assumption?
the new coupe repleaces the hatch in teh lineup.

if you watch the video, he says it too..

it's so unfortunate :(

Hatch won't return before/until the U.S. MKIII. We've discussed this ad nauseam around here ;) and the reason why...it would simply cost too much to do additional bodystyles on a car that will have a shorter product cycle then normal.

Also, the C30 looks as if it's going to be a very nice car, however it will cost $7-10K more. It's not even in the same market segment.

but the thing is, the focus shares almost all its body pannles/doors etc between models regardless if they have a hatch/waggon etc...

IMO the should have 3 body styles, sedan, coupe, and 5 door. They can skip the 3 door and waggon for now, and i think the 5 door would still fit into the line up well. MANY car companies are offering 5 door hatches and this would simpally make another hole in the line up to not have A hatch. All they would have to do is style the rear end. The front clip, doors etc would be the same as the sedan...

Another option might be to import a limited number of mk2 euro focus hatches to the US and sell those here, but they would have to be a peformance modle or something to justify being much more $ than the standard US sedan or coupe.

The cost to add another model to the mix is more expensive then you can imagine. Millions. As I said, this car will only be around 2-3 years. It simply doesn't make financial sense. Also, as I mentioned, it hasn't hurt the Civic (only having a Coupe and Sedan). I'm SURE that what the product planners at Ford are looking at.

Also, regarding importing the MKII, forget it. It won't happen... for MANY reasons, all of which I've posted previously.

Does anyone else find it kind of bizzare that Ford would spend the money tooling up an all-new coupe for the North American market? It just seems like a big waste of money.
Ford can't be selling something that would kick a Mustang's ass in stock form......

I've intentionally been staying out of the 8+ page long threads about new Focus speculation because I hate rumors. So needless to say, I was a little bit out of the loop. ;)

True. When it comes time for me to get another car, I will probably want something that is a tad more upscale anyways.....but still in a hatchback. :)

I know the C30's at the top of my list. I ready for something more upscale than the Focus can offer but I wouldn't say to to an ST or RS version if it were offered here in the states.

Looks like the C30 is going to be hugely popular. Better get in line at your local Volvo dealership.

the decision to drop the hatch for the c170-based redo was probably made 4 years ago by the same tools who rejected the C1. if mark fields is as in-touch with customers as he claims to be the hatch should return for 2010 with the mk3.

even if ford is now making smart decisions it'll still take years to sort out the focus.

Escort all over again... Talk to any IJAC on the street and there is no longer any respect for the for the Focus anymore. Sadly the IJAC's are the big numbers that make the difference when it comes to sales.....
If I see an "IJAC" I'll ask.

What's an IJAC?

Such a shame, really. The C170 is still such a good car; still better than most in it's class on the road.

Yes its a great platform, but sadly with the modern platforms and options the competitors are offering the Focus has been left in the dust. Remember in 00'-01', the Focus was winning every compact car competition left and right, they don't even include the focus anymore...... Even worse with the 2005 boondoggle redesign (hey the exterior is growing on me, but the interior is still crap on a stick) Ford made it even worse. The 2010 MKIII better be AMAZING and return to the top of the pack, because Ford is going to have a hell of a time getting people back. Sadly 2010 will be on the MKIII platform with the Euro Focus but will look "American"......
