15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

I have a regular ZX3, but i'm going to change my rear drum to the SVT Rear Disc brake..

I was wondering if the 15" wheels will still fit??

Thanks, David
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

be careful when you're thinking about putting SVT rears on a ZX3, you're really messing up the balance. you really don't need any extra braking in the rear because it's so light back there. if you do anything get the ZX3 rear discs
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

where do i get those.. i didn't know ZX3 comes with rear disc?? to my understanding it was the SVT...
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

there were a limited number of ZX3s with 4-wheel disc brakes. maybe soeone else can chime in on where to get them, my drums work fine
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

That's cool that work for you.. but not for me since i have turbo.. i could tell that the front disc is doing all the braking.. and i just replace the rear drums .. and bleed the system and still the car is not the way i want.. with the new drums is doing alot better than before.. but i know it could do better than that..
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

The front brakes DO most of the braking.
Money better spent would be upgrading the fronts before the rears.
What brake pads are you using up front?

You dont need more rear braking power if the fronts are stock. Pull your e-brake on a nice icy day and you'll understand
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

im not sure if i understand the balancing, my 05 has svt rears, but 1inch smaller fronts than the svt fronts, and it balances out nice.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

I have metallic pads for the front...with diple and slotted rotors. Why againts chaning the rear to disc when disc is better than drums anyway... even if i didn't autox the car.

Believe me i have pull the ebrake on icy day,, and it doesn't lock like it should.. now i have done the same with an SVT and the next thing I did a 360.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

First, dimpled and slotted rotors dont do anything.
Second, the factory pads are pretty much a metallic pads.
What's the brand name?

Third, if you correctly adjusted your rear brakes, maybe you wouldnt need to upgrade.

E-brake is supposed to be just that, An emergency brake. You shouldn't be pulling it to slow the vehicle down in normal situations. And your probably just needs to be adjusted.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

the disc and pads are the one from focus-central.

If drum's are ok.. why SVT comes with rear disc?

Yes, SVT's come with rear disc for better performance. The idea you are not getting, is that the brake proportioning is different from one model to the next. The SVT has larger brakes in the front than in the back. I don't remember what the size of the standard focus fronts are but you don't want the back to be as strong as the front. The front brakes are supposed to be doing the majority of the braking.
If you changed all the parts out to the SVT ones, I don't think there would be an issue. But to my knowledge (and I'll admit I am just going from what I normally know to be true) you would just be hurting braking performance by doing this without changing some other stuff. Again, if I'm off, someone will probably chime in that knows a little bit more than I do.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

what lee said

also, the focus hatchback (zx3/svt) is a front-heavy car. when you slow the car, the front gets even heavier. this in turn puts almost all of the braking on the front.

and turbo or not, your car weighs roughly the same. an extra 80 lbs is not going to matter. you don't upgrade your brakes because you have more power, you upgrade your brakes so you can slow to any given speed in a shorter amount of time.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

slow to any given speed in a shorter amount of time.
Best way to do this is with tires.

Now if you want to stop the same over and over in rapid succession, upgrade the brakes.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

sorry, should have added a "for any particular tire" as well.
Re: 15\" inch wheel on Rear SVT???

when you apply the brakes, the weight of the car shifts ot the front, hence the reason why front brakes are always bigger than back brakes, they need to be bigger because there is more wieght directly over them and the front itres do the majority of the stopping. If you put SVT disks in the rear, they will be bigger than your front disks and when you need to stop fast to avoid an accident, and the rear locks up before the front, you will spin out with even the slightest touch of the steering wheel.

i suggest that if you want to stop faster you upgrade your tires to that of a more performance oriented tread wear rating, upgrade your front breaks with disks and pads or all out with a Baer or comparable BBK(big brake kit) then when you are driving so fast that you need more brake power, upgrade your rears, but i do not forsee you going this fast unless you happen to do NASA or SCCA lapping days on a regular basis.
