This one is going to be a SLOW project, but I figured I would throw a thread up to post when I did make changes. Just washed it today so I snapped a few pictures. Nothing in here really requires an description, it just is.

Details on the car:
1966 Pontiac GTO
428 cube Poncho from a Bonneville or something and a Muncie 4spd, both fresh rebuilds.
Used to be blue, now it's faded red.

Future plans:
LS2/T56 swap
I was originally planning to paint it deep purple, but might do something light like yellow or white. Also considering having all the chrome powder coated black instead of re-chroming it. Thought it could be something different.

Forgot to take a better pic today, but here's an engine shot.

Yeah to my knowledge it is original, there's some rust. Nothing major though. And the body is not perfect by any means. Definitely needs to get worked over. But there are no panels that need to be replaced aside from part of the trunk pan, which is actually small enough to be patched. And the paint is pretty bad. I actually found it in Denver of all places. I couldn't believe how good the body was.

Man I am not a big stretch and poke person although I own one but this photo I think this car has the lines for some BIG stretch and poke. Steelies or salt flats with BIG lips. Leave it as is. No bags.

If he stretches and pokes the GTO I will leave FocalJet.

Who needs that crap carburated old school low gas mileage all torque no horsepower big block anymore? :D I would understand if the car was all-original, but it's not even the same color as it was when new. LS that beast and stroke it with some lopey cams. *Old Spice whistle*

I love this car. A friend's father had a 1965 GTO convertible 4 on the floor with a white interior. SO nice.

I understand and respect your LS ideas; the bottom line is that it will be wicked pisser either way. The 400 would also be a great place to start. I'm just a bit of an addict when it comes to big, snarling, world-turning big-blocks with a trillion ft-lbs of torque and a massive cam. Call my tastes antiquated. They are.

Actually all Pontiacs are the same size externally, from the 326-455, so they should not be called big blocks, although they are by folks because they are compared to Chevy / Ford or Mopar. When compared to themselves, they are all the same size.

I will be following your build. "Technically" I own 4 '67 GTO's right now, at least on paper. But I had a disagreement with my storage guy about fees, who is my uncle and he owns a junkyard, and he won the disagreement by crushing my 2 hard tops and my coupe, which had some rare options on it. I had the options off, but really needed the vin number for value.

Anyway, I still have my '67 Convertible, plus have owned another 4 GTO's and many more Pontiacs to boot. My first "driving" car was a 1970 Judge in high school. You are speaking my language. I'll add a few more post tonite probably, so not to make this one a book.

****ing beautiful car - a couple of my friends in HS had goats back when they were affordable. My vote is white for the body color. I don't much care what v8 it gets so long as is has a wicked cam. Goats with smooth idle shouldn't exist.

I'm thinking LS2 with a Texas Speed Magic Stick 3... should have a nice lobe to it. I got a reply for the price of the ITB intake... $5,700 so I probably won't be doing that haha. It's still sexy though.
