2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

Hey, I have a question, I know that there not comming out with a SVT Lightning Ive seen the Concept.. And Well they kinda are the Svt sport track as a lightning replacement... But as for the F150 lightning ... are there any cool highperformance aftermarket products for it? Im curious. And like which truck platform will be good for it? the regular cab with the 4.6 leter V8? or the supercab 5.4?

Yep, there are ton of things available for the lightning. Brakes, motor stuff. SVTperformance board may be a good site to check out
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

There is tons of lighning aftermarket ish. The new one will be even cooler. I hear they are to make both the SVT Lighning and the SVT Adrenaline
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

The Lightning was slated to come out in a year or two, but Ford put the idea off since the F-150 is moving to a Flexed based Platform called the T1 for the F-150 in 08 or so. So thats why the killed it off.

do you have any pics of that?
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

the new lightning will never compare to the last without a HUGE boost in tq/hp. And even then, it'll always be fighting a losing battle.

the new f150 weighs 5000lbs, or more than 500lbs more than ANY OTHER 1/2 ton truck on the market. THe last lightning was 42 or 4300 if I remember, for comparison.

that's why the new F150 feels like such a pig even with the300hp 5.4L, it's like havin a 220hp motor in any other truck.

Not exactly, it didnt perform to the level expected. In the flux of that time (Year ago) Ford didnt want to spend the reengineering funds on it.

Yup!
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

i cant wait to see the new L.. ive recently found we will have a new L when ford re-designs the body style again.. around 07-08.. isnt it supposed to be a 500HP 5.4L supercharged 8Cyl w/ Supercooling system that injects coolant at -35deg. at WOT giving it the feel of a 50shot? and when it recharges a little green light on the dash will light up?
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

Former SVT head John Coletti has a patent on a airconditioning based cold box. Seems that may give a similar feeling

Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

SVT was looking at ways to make the new Lightning lighter. As said before, the new F-150 is 500 pounds heavier than the others.

I have a feeling that the super cooling thing WON'T make it to production. It would be cool, but I have a feeling it would be an expensive feature.
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

toolman, the problem is the truck is just overbuilt from head to toe. IF you've been to a ford dealership recently they have a display comparing the frame rails of theirs to everyone else.

Yeah it's bigger/thicker/better boxed, it's also very excessive for what used to be called a 1/2 ton truck.

i dont' think they coudl ditch all that weight without usin a completley different ladder frame.
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

Well the truck is due for serious changes come 08-09 so I guess we can see what they can do for weight reduction then. I was suprised to see the Explorer get a new frame for 2006 myself.
Re: 2006 F150 \"Lightning\"

we can only hope. But with ford operating almost entirely outside of public opinion, we'll have to wait and see.

A lot of the changes on the New F150 went through DESPITE opposition from focus groups and people who USE trucks...like the higher beltline...and the weight.
