This show was pretty cool, although it was ultimately smaller than I expected it to be. Nissan's seemed to make the biggest showing, but the other marques were fairly well represented too. I'd imagine that this show would be more exciting for people who live in the rust belt and probably haven't seen most of these cars in decades, if ever. I definitely enjoyed myself though and will be back next year.

My 195 shots can be seen by clicking this photo. They're all uploaded at 1024x768 if you keep clicking.

For those people here who are really into these types of cars (Jared, Omni, Dev, etc) there are 3 other threads with photos from this event posted on The Car Lounge:

200+ pics from today's 2nd Annual Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach, SoCal

alot of z cars. i guess people there want to keep them japanese. i mean so much room in some of those engine bays and theyll swap in a 4cyl honda engine. i dont get it. the rb25 swaps ok some of the others i dont get. me personally id drop atleast a v6 in. some shots of the engine bays you see a cluster **** of wires and the engine. then infront mass amounts of just open space.

Wow, thanks for sharing!

I was hoping for a few more Starlets and maybe a bigger Mitsubishi showing.... but great photos either way!

I'll check out those other threads in a bit.

30 lashes for you... It's a Celica!
Haha my bad after a few more looks and some quick research found the same answer. I have never seen a Celica like this before in my life! In Chicago you dont really get to see an classic imports besides a Z. They are so beautiful but rare.

Any ideas on what a Celica like this would run price wise in a worn daily driven condition also roughly what year is this car?

It's an early '70s - maybe a '71 or '72. Not sure on price, but three of the ones that were there had F20 swaps.

For those not familiar, the F20 is the engine found in the Honda S200. What a combo!

Yup. Could be a bit younger though. The body style didn't change much till mid/late 70's. I've owned 79, and at the same time one of my good friends had a 76. GREAT cars.

Thanks much for sharing. I've been drooling over the keyboard looking at those. I miss my celica. I've been looking around for one as a project, but haven't been able to find anything worthy.

That and a clean 510. Both those cars make me cream my pants. mmmmmmmmm.

The reason people will put a SR20 in a Z is for better balance. You can put the motor closer to the firewall, its lighter, and will put out much more power / torque for cheaper than getting power out of the L24/6/8. You can get Z's (with a little more work) under 2000Lbs farely close to 50/50 weight distrabution with a decent SR swap, not to mention 240hp / 200+ ft/lbs safely. Granted, you are slightly bastardizing your car, but the results can be decent. The ultimate "pure" swap is always going to be the RB26, but its an expensive and involved swap. V8's are good cheap swaps but are the truest bastardization. There is no reason to ever ever put a V6 into a Z. There are no benifits that couldn't be better addressed with another engine type. The only V6 you will see put into a early Z is one of the new 350Z motors and even the people doing the swaps will tell you the engine isn't the best choice.

I've always wished I had the big bucks to do an older Celica like this. Although I would prefer one of the newer ones with the 20R (do a 22RE swap) than the older one with a 1.8.

Or did we only get the 2.0 in the states? I was thinking the 20R only showed up in what? The late, late 70's?

And Silver, here's your Skyline. :)

A GTR to boot.

Thanks for those pics Pel.

The sign in front of that told the brief history on the Nissan Patrol and mentioned that production numbers were somewhere in the 700 range for the U.S. market with roughly half built with hard tops like this one. It also mentioned that this particular one is still in it's original, unrestored condition. I was impressed that anyone could keep something like this looking that good for so long.

I guess it didn't do too much patrolling.

So, Erik, do you just go to car shows for a living?:p

Great pictures. Would love an old Celica or 510...

Don't I wish... :( I do know a few people who do just that - what a life!

I will probably hit up the Crystal Cove car show these next two weekends as the company that owns the shopping center they are held at is finally shutting it down. :( :thumbdown I expect it will be big for the final two weeks and worth the 90 mile drives to and from.

Other than that, the only other car event on my calendar for the rest of the year is the LA Auto Show which is being held in early December. I'll be there on VIP Preview night with camera in hand of course.

OK Erik I haven't clicked on the album yet, I'm about to, but just by looking at the pics in this thread I can tell that I need to thank you much lol... oooh baby.

Yeah, we totally don't see stuff like this around here. In high school, which was circa 99, my one guidance counselor had a 71 Celica in perfect condition. Aside from that, the only time I see Japanese classics are the late 70's/early 80's Corollas and Cressidas that seem in ok condition but somehow I never see them for sale, it appears that only the Puerto Rican communities know how to get ahold of stuff like that around here haha. They always have the nicest ones.

Oh and once a few months ago I saw a guy fly by in a souped up RX3. But he was gone as fast as I saw him.

So yeah I'm going to go gawk at these beautiful cars now. It's stuff like this that makes me wish sometimes that we didn't ever get snow around here :)

Oh, hey Erik, I see those links to the Car Lounge albums but the pic you said to click on for your album isn't showing up. Same with in the CHP charity thread. Is this something with my computer or did you just forget the pic links :)

Maybe you're having issues with Imagestation? Maybe they have issues with you? :D

You can quote both of my posts and and copy the links to the album from them if that helps. Not having any issues on my end.

Sweet heaven the Mazda pics!! I had a brown RX2 sedan in HS. I love those things. I want another one dangit. Wonder what kind of mpg I would get with a more modern engine/tranny in an old RX sedan?
