What was all that noise about doing it late at night on deserted roads being responsible and safe?

-APACCOKEEK, Md. - A car plowed into a crowd that apparently gathered to watch a drag race on a suburban road early Saturday, killing seven people and injuring at least four, police said.
The car went out of control on Route 210 around 3:40 a.m. and hit people standing on the roadside, Prince George's County Police Cpl. Clinton Copeland said. A tractor-trailer that came by shortly afterward may also have struck someone on the road as it tried to avoid the crash, he said.
"It's probably one of the worst scenes I've seen," Copeland said. "This is a situation that could have been avoided, and it's a very tragic situation."
Four people were taken to hospitals, Copeland said. Their conditions weren't immediately known.
Route 210 has two lanes in each direction and traffic lights about every 150 to 200 yards in Accokeek, about 20 miles south of Washington.
Investigators were working to piece together the chain of events and had "more questions than answers," Copeland said.

Thats what I was about to say. Lets all stand and watch cars go triple digits by us, thankfully everyone around here has enough sense not to do that. If they wanna watch around here you get in a pack of cars and hang back, not just to watch but also not let other people get close so we dont kill innocent people driving. They must have been pretty close to get hit.Dukman said:Well, what really baffles me is that you'll see people lined ALL the way down the run. Apparently no one has enough sense to realize that the cars that lose control will be going a hell of a lot faster at mid-course than at the launch.
thats how alot of it is, it's not as big here as it used to be. We had problems with that when I was around 19 but I was all for it then. Not to mention my focus was all but stock then. The crowd thinned out and the only few that hang out now have been doing it for a few years now and nothing has happened to any of them yet. The rookies seem to be the ones you hear about.biscuitninja said:Yep, after a few minutes of attending a street race, I left. Just WAY too dangerous, idiots with fast cars, BIG egos and very little common sense.
I feel bad for these kids, they were/are so young to have their lives extinguished by something so stupid. Anyway, good luck

We'll see I guess.A white sedan hit people standing on the side of Route 210 around 3:40 a.m., Prince George's County Police Cpl. Clinton Copeland said, but it wasn't clear whether that was one of the cars involved in the race.
The "profiling" will probably get much worse... it's already published info that ANYONE with above-dash guages, too many stickers and dramatically lowered ride height gets hassled, especially here in California's Sac, L.A., Orange and San Diego counties. They consfiscate the car if the emissions equipment has been obviously tampered with... it's all such BS and does little or nothing to defeat street racing.Hopefully we'll see a crackdown on illegal street races from this.
