Re: A Car Below $26k, here\'s your requirements...

the6148: Not to ridicule your superb writing skills, but I must comment on the MINI's accessability for us tall people.

I have driven a MINI Cooper approximately 7 times; all these times adding up to maybe 60-70 miles. I got in and out without absolutely any problems. However, I would hate to ever attempt getting in the back at my height and shoulder broadness.

I rode in the back of a friend's New Beetle for about 30 miles, after I sat down, I figured my head would have to rest on the headliner. Then we hit a bump. I proceeded to lay down across the seat the entire remaining distance.

Thank you, the6148, your insight certainly has helped me.

WRX Wagon: sporty, sleeper, ungodly fast, rugged and reliable, and does a good job hauling stuff/dogs.

Honda Element: Incredibly practical, plus very funky.

VW Golf/GTI: Much more practical than they look. Generous trunk, lovely interior. Let down by truly atrocious reliability and antediluvian rear suspension.

Mazda 6/ Acura TSX: I'd take the Mazda over the TSX anyday of the week. Why pay more for essentially the same thing? If you're looking for practicality, wait for the arrival of the 6 hatchback and wagon.

Mini Cooper: Exactly how small are these dogs? Burrito sized and you shouldn't have a problem.

Option 1: WRX Wagon
Option 2: WRX Sedan
Option 3: WRX
Option 4: WRX

I mean really, it seems to me these other cars don't compare but maybe I'm looking at it wrong

Honda CRV EX would be my fourth choice for you. It has decent engine, decent interior (if you like rock hard seating), decent space, great fuel milage, and excellent resale value. I think this would be the best one to fit your requirments. However, you can't buy this car under MSRP unless miracle happened.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I got mine for invoice + $500. It pays to work for a company called Autodata. I absolutely love mine. The only drawbacks with it are that first gear is too short (presumably to allow the 4 banger to tow something). By the time you shift into second you have almost stop moving again. And the stereo (6 speaker) lacks clarity and bass. But still 8.2 0-60 beats my focus and it fits my irish wolfhound and german shepherd.
