I have a buddy who hasn't been having good luck finding good cars. He's looked at two Mustangs ('91s) and both had some fairly major problems, so he had to pass. If he wants something not too old (1990+) and not too slow, what would it be? He was looking at some Nissan's or maybe an Eclipse or something, but what else might be a good idea? Lookin' to spend maybe a little over $4000 I told him he needs a '91 Talon TSi AWD.

Is he going to mod it, or is he looking for something quick out of the box?

The 240sx would be a good choice if he is gonna mod.

1st gen DSM's are an obvious choice, but they are getting old and beat on now. It's tough to find a non-abused DSM for much less than $4k anymore.

Miata's are fun and highly moddable.

A Sentra/200sx SE-R might be fun too.
