AC bearing going bad ... workaround?

2001 ZX3 with Zetec 2L installed 2009, noise from "AC compressor bearing going bad". Quote for AC repair $1200.
I'd like to sell it, but market value pretty low now, maybe equal to the repair cost. Is there a cheaper workaround, such as a shorter belt? (shop labor, not mine) Thanks. Not sure the value of a no-AC car here in NC ...

Yes, use the non-a/c belt for same zetec and it works fine. BTDT, but can't remember if I had to yank the a/c clutch to make room for the belt run right through there. I know I did not remove the compressor.

I've also changed nothing but the clutch bearing there myself in the past at a cost of $40-$60 bucks for the bearing alone but you have to get old bearing number off it and then search the specialty places. And you can get the clutch alone as an assembly, or you could pre-covid anyway. Most places want you to buy the entire compressor.
