adding tilt steering

I have a really dumb question. I would like to put tilt steering on my '05 ZX3-S and have noticed that alot of places will sell you a tilt column with a steering whell attached. Most if not all, have the center section of the steering wheel missing. Is this where the air bag is housed? Can you buy just the center section of the steering wheel without the air bag? What's up with this?

What are you serious? My ZX3 came with tilt and tlescoping whats wrong with yours?
Not all come with it. My '05 ZX3 is an "S" and it has NOTHING. I plan on adding things later like tilt, Fogs, Tach and such.
So let me ask you something... why did you get the bone stock ZX3?
Ive seen several people asking about tilt wheel swaps. You all act like this is the first case

I dont know, mine came with tilt/tele. and fogs but nothing else.

Every US Focus ZX3 I have been in has had it.
The "S" models are bare bones, don't come any more stripped down. I paid $9600 for it brand new. Paying that for it, I can save some money by adding my own extras. A used column isn't very expensive at all. I'm just curious about the steering wheel, removing and installing the steering column itself, isn't that big of a deal. Also, I'd like to know how a black wheel looks with the dark gray (graphite, or whatever they call it) dash. The dash in my '05 isn't like a dark black, it's more of a light black color, if that makes any since. I've been thinking about an SVT wheel. Any opinions??? Pics would be nice if someone has any.
Every Focus wheel is black. The SVT has a perferated leather areas.
contact SteveO on here and ask him about what you need for it, he has already done the swap.
The wheel in my focus is definitly NOT black, it's gray.
mine doesn't...but its also a 2000

but i got my tilt sitting in the garage waiting for install

use washers on the bolts holding the steering rack in place to lower it.. cheaper than tilt.. and how much do you need to adjust it anyways

how does putting washers on the bolts inbetween the steerign rack and mounting points weaken it in ANY way?
i could understand if you put so many on that the bolt only threads 1/2 way into the nut, but there is plenty of extra bolt..

and if you were really scared of it you could buy some longer bolts

quit the arguing about it
...its logic, you do a 'hack' instead of replacing something with the right working parts, it is more likely to fail than the working part

its simple, were not sayi8ng don't do it...just stating fact

the more i drive my car, the more i want it too

i may do it this winter if i can meet up with Recar (since he did his) so he can help me out with the process

you better make a how-to i may be getting rays from his old car depending how much effort it will take for him to get it off. what exactly is needed to be swapped? got any pics of what you have to put in?
