You can get yourself a good aftermarket alternator a lot cheaper than that. When I replaced mine I bought it for $200 online and it has been great. It's a 200 amp unit that I got from DB Electrical. Installation is a pain, but pretty straightforward, as long as you are patient with it. Was Ford's charge including labor?

Better yet get one from a junkyard. Should be around $100 from there.

Installation is a tit.
You can get a brand new alternator for that price.

Yes that's including everything, taxes and labor. I've already given them the go ahead. I've got the money, they just say they can't guarantee it with all my gauges and everything on there.

They damn right should gurantee it.

It takes 10 seconds to test and alternator.

advanced gave me an alternator for 180 i think. **** paying that much money to ford for a POS alt. did the same thing to me. they only have a 1 year warranty. as the ones at advanced have lifetime

From the looks of it, its harder on the Focus because of engine position that and it is on many other cars.

That being said: If you know a little bit about cars, I'd try it. I think you need to get at it from under the car though. Pick up the Focus Haynes manual at any autoparts store. But, do plan for ample time to do the job.
