So whats the big deal? How could some one say which is better? How do u define better? to me this is something only a higher being would know, here is my thoughts!
(*I may not even be correct*)

American
Pros:
1. we like to be the biggest and the baddest, we got the trucks that are insanely strong. Alot of torque.
2. We have been making Muscle cars pretty much ever since the industry has started.

Cons:
1. Not the best handling cars, well most of them
2. We have a reputation for making cars of quantity, not quality.

Import:
Pros:
1. I hear they are good on handling
2. I hear its much more simple to achieve higher HP

Cons:
1. Seem to be all hp, and no torque.
2. I say their trucks suck compared to what we have(thats an opinion)

Imports is too broad a category.

You seem to be looking at stuff like Hondas, Acuras, whatever.

...technically BMWs, VW's, Minis, Audis, etc etc are all imports. It's not a fight "american" cars will win.

Generalizations suck.

And if you LOL at this statement because you understand its irony, then I'll award you with +5 cool points ;)

I jsut hate it, cause i drive a focus, and everyone i talk to that own imports, damn rich kids, always gotta talk trash about american cars, i wish i could back my self up, but what do i sayy?

Just ignore them... or hang out with a better group of people.

Real car people are fun, because you can sit there and discuss the pros and cons of damn near any car, and you can see the fun side of almost any car.

I'll never be a one-make or one-country fanboy.

Ditto. I've driven a Volkswagen, Ford, Mazda, and Toyota, and I've loved all of them.

everyone owns imports because the market is saturated with them. there cheap easy to get cars and an aftermarket developed around demand. the hondas have a nice engine but then so too do the fords.

cost is the issue, in the honda market there is 100 manufacturers to our 1 so the price goes down.

a focus can beat a civic it will just take more money and alittle more work do to the lack of certian parts.

cobalt is ok (not my thing) and the neon is proving itself. but the auto manufacturers are going after the older generations that still whant raw power right out of the box and still be able to tool thier kids around.

I love my import (focus from Hermasillo). My favorite domestic currently is the Hyundai Sonata (from Alabama) or Honda Accord (Kentucy)

The BMW Z4 is another good domestic (South Carolina)

My favorite import is the Ford fusion (Mexico) and dodge trucks (also mexico).

lol

i suppose thats well deserved.

sorry this is one of the most retarded posts ever. just cuz auto companies have plants in america doesnt make it domestic. so i dont know what your point is. its cheaper to build here and not have to ship.

unless your just trying to pointing out imports are made in america and domestics are made in other countries as well, just for the sake of being a moron and trying to contradict people.

here is how car technology works. The Germans pioneer and perfect it, 3 years later the asians steal it and tweak it just enough to make it similer but worse. In another 2 years, Ford will take some of this technology from one of its european market cars and water it down for US consumption. A short time later, Dodge will try its hand at it using Mercedes parts bin. Unfortunately for Chrysler, its mercedes stuff so its already obsolete. After the technology is 10 years old, GM will have vaguely heard about technology and want to get in on this hot "new" thing. They will take it apart and study it, learn how it works and why it works so well. Then out of pure stubborn bravado they will decide they want to pioneer new technology too. So they reinvente the wheel and come up with a plastic coated hexagon, much to the dismay of mechanics everywhere who'll have to fight tooth and nail with the flood of GM crap pouring into their shops.

Different cars were designed to capture different market segments.

An SVT Focus is much more like a Civic Si than a Mustang GT. Some companies build more towards one type of market, but still gotta look at the vehicles individually. :)

I'm pointing out the absurdity in our global market.

To me imported means just that, imported. If an object is made here then by definition it's domestic.

Right now I'd rather support foreign owned company's that actually create jobs for americans and let the american owned company's that ship jobs out suffer and die.

Why do I care which a-hole multi millionaire gets my money? Given the choice I'll support the one that is willing to employ americans.

So then what is your excuse for GM dominating the sports car market in all performance categories and doing it for a fraction of the cost? lol

German and British hands down... eh, I might be a little bit partial to that selection though. :D

Even the bigest and baddest Ford is still an import. The Ford GT with it's British designed brakes and tranny, chassis that came off an Aston Martin (supposedly) and other such parts designed and built in Europe. It's all been put together in America and everyone consideres it to be a domestic muscle car.

define Dominate. :what:

I would peg audi as dominating motorsports right now. Every year they come out with a car that wins so much it gets banned next year. Then they come back with something else and it happens again. Right now they are using a twin turbo V10 diesel wearing a sticker that reads "next year, no diesels"

"sports cars" is only one part of the automotive group. and the stuff that GM puts out isnt exactly spectacular. Its solid rear suspension with a pushrod V8. Not exactly cutting edge. BMW for example (last gen M5) uses a DOHC V8 with variable intake and exhaust cam timing, twin electronic throttle bodies, tuned horn intake runners in a main plenum, dynamic stability control with traction assist utilyzing yaw, pitch, and steering angle sensors in conjunction with 4 wheel speed sensors and dynamic brake assist. Not to mention the rear end is fully independant, utilizing CV axles with its limited slip differential.

Audi's new V8 makes 12.5:1 compression on pump gas because its using FSI fuel injection. Its using a diesel injection pump to spray high pressure gas directly into the combustion chamber. This results in lower EGTs and allows higher compression, higher boost, and advanced timing. Then we can take into consideration the brain child of Porsche and new VAG trophy, the DSG transmission. A twin clutch true manual transmission paddle shift that does away of the harshness of Ferrari's F1 set up and lack of performance of the tiptronic transmissions. Its not an automatic that shifts on command, its a manual that will function with paddles and as an automatic. One clutch for odd gears, one clutch for even gears, at the flick of the paddle, the other clutch drops on a gear thats already lined up and off you go. right now, VAG is making a killing selling this trans to other automakers. Mitsu is using it and there is liscensing in the works for other makers as well.

but you are right, GM builds at a fraction of the cost.................because you get what you pay for.

Race cars are not street cars. In the street car world, GM dominates.

The corvette is not a solid rear suspension. The BMW has all of that "technology" and yet will get drug all over the road and the track by GM.

A car that gets the job done? Aside from that, the C6 "niceness" factor is not far behind bmw. The difference? It is more purpose built.

one car does not a market make. ;) Congrats to GM for building a car using technology that Porsche was using in 1983.
