The Zetec has more options if you want to mod it right now. However, the Duratec is almost definitely going to be a better option once the aftermarket grows a little. In a few years, the 2.3 will easily eclipse the older models.

The only 03 Duratecs you will find are from green states so they are a bit rare

Duratec for performance but there are for sure more products out there for the zetec

How bout mileage & recalls, if i were to go into the dealer do i make em fix all the recalls if its still under warranty or is that my risk, cuz i heard therez some recalls in the 02s

you want to modify you car later or keep it stock?

mod! is more fun. its ok after a while youll learn to survive with no money for any thing but car parts

i want to keep it stock while i get some chips together for mods

my questions r whether i should go with the 02-03 models i want to go with one that is under 30k therefore if the car turns out to be a pos then i could spend the whole day in the dealer shop till itz fixed or till they say im [censored] we can do nuthing about it.

p.s im trying to go down a road that wont give me a alot of headaches since i read somewhere along these forums that there were a ton of recalls on the 00,01,02 zx3 models

There were a few recalls for the 00's especially. I have one, great car. IMO, recalls don't bother me because the problem has been fixed, and fixed for free. My fuel pump was replaced free, and has the 10 yr/100k mile warranty. I wouldn't be afraid of the older foci. My 2000 has treated me very well.
