I'm confident that the ENGINE is the last thing we need to worry about falling apart.

The engine still starts quickly and easily, doesn't have anymore NVH then the day I acquired the car, and I'm willing to bet the gas mileage I get is in the top 5% of Focus owners here. More impressive to me, the car has not ONE squeak or rattle and everything works properly. The paint quality is still nice and flawless (well, not where it was keyed but that is hardly Ford's fault). If ever I had a concern about Ford quality, I no longer do. The only things that have been replaced are A) rear sway bar end links, B) fuel pump, C) ignition interlock, D) front rotors/pads, and D) thermostat housing seal.

And most impressive of all? Mine was made in early 2000.

strange how quality varies...i have a mid-2002 and it has AT LEAST 5 separate squeaks/rattles and the steering wheel has a slight loose-feeling kick/vibration when i go over bumps...
minor things though, my car is still sound in every way that matters. i can turn up music to ignore vibrations
