I just got off the phone with another PZEV owner and after talking to him about his drag racing experiences, Im wondering if the computers are really touchy.

At the local track out here, Pomonoa (where they run the NHRA WinterNationals) on the same day he ripped off a 16.2 ET after installing a home made intake and exhaust. He was a bit peaved about that so he reset his computer by disconnecting his battery for about 20 minutes or so. After doing this, he was able to run a 15.7 ET. Between his next run he iced down the intake manifold and was then able to run a 15.3 ET. he said the 16.2 was a good run with a 60ft of 2.3x and with very good shifts.

Has anyone elses times been varying so drastically? Has heat been an issue with your engine/computer as well? We have had to cancel a couple trips to the drag strip at the last minute, but we will be going to LACR tomorrow night. I guess we better reset our computer to make sure everything is legit.

Well, the day I pulled my 15.4, that was on my 6th or so run, and after that it was all down hill for me, staying in the 15.7s for most of the day. It could have been heat, or it could have been me getting overzealous and frustrated. But I haven't even reset my computer, even after my homemade CAI install and pulley install. Maybe I should have before that dyno run. I might have been able to eek more power out of it...

We all know Ford ECUs can have a mind of their own...

Strange...i pretty much ran 15.4's all day with a few ventures into the 15.3's. The car seemed wicked consistant over my old zetec. Not sure what the deal with his was...the ET's can vary for a lot of reasons. What were his traps like? Did they stay the same or did they fluctuate as well?

I know he said his trap on the 15.3 was an 89mph.. i dont remember what he said his traps were on the 15.7 or the 16.2....

Sounds like my time then. I've gotta get an exhaust and my pullies on by spring time so i can stay on the forefront

How long after installing the home made intake did he go to the track. I know the computer is supposed to learn over time but if he just installed the CAI he may not have had enough drive cycles done for the computer to adjust. Resetting the computer probably just speed up the process. Just a guess.

The computer does seem to be really finicky about any 'tweaking' or modifying of the electrical system...It also seems to 'learn' when you have altered something, and the gains from the alteration seem to slowly go away...

Wow, I think that was more confusing than it should have been...

I believe he had the home made intake installed for at least a month or so and then went to the track. Then after re-setting his computer the car ran quick.
