I found a sedan center console without a armrest. Is the sedan the same as the ZX3? Same fit, mounting holes, shifter....
absolutely, i just did this. took out my ZX3 console and put in an armrest-less console from an LX.
they are identical in how they mount, but a few pointers on removing your armrest console:
1. underneath your cupholders are 2 screws -- take those out (everybody has seen underneath those damn cupholders, right?
).
2. push in at the rear center of the ring at the bottom of your shift boot, and lift up. there is a tab there holding it in. invert your shift boot so it looks like it's a cone.
3. push in at the sides of the base of your e-brake boot - towards the front. pull up (or, if like mine, it just pulls out on it's own... heh). invert that one, too.
4. remove the screw that's hidden under the plastic disc in that weird square thing just above your rear cupholder. that disc is kind of a bear to get out without scratching the heck out of your console.
5. remove the 2 round things on either side of your armrest where it hinges. they're held in with metal spring-clips, it might make horrible noises while you're doing it (metal clip in a metal hole), but you can rock & pry them out with a wide flat screwdriver.
6. there is a filler panel on the back, right below where the armrest hinges. this is held in at the top by 2 tabs that catch on the sides. (since you removed the circles, you should be able to see this now). gently push those in and tilt it back, then slide it up and out. (this is the step i missed - i didn't realize how it was held in there, so i pried it up from the bottom and ended up breaking one of those tabs at the top).
7. remove the screws holding the armrest to the ... 'jagged plastic tower' i'll call it. i never expected plastic to be so sharp heh.
8. remove the console, making sure to clear your inverted shifter/e-brake boots. the plastic tower will remain.
9. there are 3 bolts holding the plastic tower down. remove those with a ... 10mm? ratchet. one of them is kinda hidden inside the thing -- visible only from the passenger side. that one baffled me for a bit.
10. install the armrest-less console, pulling your inverted boots thru the holes. attach it down in the back with 1 of the bolts that was holding down the plastic tower (you'll be kind to give the other 2 to whomever you sell/give your armrest-console to). leave the rear bolt loose until you tighten up the front screws.
11. put the screws in the front, tighten the bolt in the rear, snap in the rear cupholder-divider-thing, and snap your shift/e-brake boots back in.
12. there is no step 12. you're done!
wow, i guess that was a mini-howto, but kind of a stream-of-memory from doing mine. hope it helps.
