Belt tensioner pulley va-poo-rized?

664 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  whiteboyslo
I've got to pick my daughter up a few miles away from my house... my belt tensioner pulley disentigrated yesterday; which I discovered today when I started to replace what I thought was just a bad belt. Would it be safe to drive my car beltless this short distance or should I break out the stroller and heel-toe it there and back?

(I wish I would have made my discovery earlier.)

Re: Running with no accessory belt?

Nevermind... got a ride.
Re: Running with no accessory belt?

Any thoughts as to what may have caused the pulley to va-poo-rize?
Re: Running with no accessory belt?

The belt tensioner seems to becoming an issue on higher mileage cars. I know mine went after I replaced the belt during my timing belt change.

This is why I recommend that if you're ready to replace the accessory belt, do the belt tensioner as well.

It died of lonliness. It missed your old motor.

I didn't realize that it was something we transferred... damn it!Crabs in a bucket...
Re: Running with no accessory belt?

Bearings on mine went bad and into pieces it went, along with my belt, easy fix though
Re: Running with no accessory belt?

tensioners just go bad. don't know what to tell you there. they should probably be changed or at least HIGHLY inspected everytime you change a belt.
