Best Sounding 4-Cylinder -

Most people don't think 4-cylinder engines sound very good. I tend to agree (I like sixes myself). But, what is the best sounding 4-cylinder engine (modified or stock) that you have ever heard? Is it a Honda K-series at 8,000 rpm, is it a 20-valve VW 1.8T, is it a Chevy Ecotec, is it the new Duratec? What do you think? The only fours that I've heard have been my Zetec, and a slightly modified Ecotec in a Cavalier. The ecotec sounded much huskier than my Zetec.

eh ecotecs grunt and rattle i think...doesn't sound smooth or refined to be, i love the sound of my zetec right now with my mods...but from factory it was not a grin maker.

Haven't heard the duratec yet.

think the acura rsx's/tsx's engine is super sweet sounding straight from factory...think its the only factory 4banger that gives me chills when revved through the gears, i love driving them!

uncorked duratecs sound pretty darn good.
I'm surprised by how bassy my MSM with the exhaust adds it has sounds.

I get compliments on it all the time.

For a stock four cylinder, I actually like the SRT-4. The high pitch "noise" is filtered out and it leaves an aggressive bassy rumble (well as far as fours go). Even off gas, you get a little pshhh gurgle gurgle which sounds meaty.

I agree, I think SRT-4 does have the best sounding exhaust on a stock car.
Saturn ION Redline with an intake. You cant beat the sound of supercharger whine.
I'd have to go with how the SRT4 sounds.... though with the cat delete pipe, stage 2 and the borla, that thing gets a little ear hurting.

^^^ Yep, they sound like an old ski boat.

My vote goes to the Duratec, especially with ITB's and a header in a Caterham. Yummy.

Offy's are nasty/good/loud.

Driving a Porsche 356 is an aural treat, but not quite as much as a late '50's/early'60's Alfa roadster with Webers is.

Is the musical group/show "Stomp" playing in the exhaust?

I'm gonna have to agree with the boxer-4 from the WRX. Sounds like a mini-V8.
