Go to your local BMW dealer and take one for a test drive. Clean your car up, put on some decent clothes and walk into the place like you own it. They are pretty loose with their 135i demo cars. As for the driving experience, they are indeed a blast. Probably one of the fastest cars I have ever driven. Nate

i love this car. i probably would be happy even with the smaller engine. the only thing that annoys me is the comparisons to the 2002. it's totally not a modern 2002 lol

Perfect track day car...

I was just thinking about the 135i in the context of recreational open lapping. I'll never "race," but I do like to have some fun out on a road course. I was daydreaming about what car I'd want if $$$ was no issue. I'm not keen on "super cars" and such, but a gutted, caged, and properly track prepped 135i. Now THAT would be something worth having. Oh yes it would. That 135 tii concept car shown in the fall really got my desire for one of these going, but the reality is that fuel costs and such make this kind of toy increasingly impractical for me. Sigh.

hey i have to agree with you guys and say that this thing is fast. i work at a BMW dealer and i get to drive them pretty frequently(nice little perk for being an employee). Ive considered buying one for myself but ive got some things planned for the focus right now and on a side note in the BMWcca the 135i is like 5 points away from the full race class of cars in the auto-x because of how well it performs. so basically you do one mod to it and your running with full race M3s and what not at an auto-x haha

Ha! had a great battle with the 2nd (carbon fiber fendered) 135 with the 285 tires shoe(ed) in- Robi spec was working on it. They really praised the aero work on the cars

Ah, I'm not the only one. Where does that comparison come from??

Oh wait... The marketing department.

Kinda like Toyota's marketing for the new FJ. "Hey you baby boomers remember being young and goin' camping in your old beat up FJ40? Now you can recapture your youth with this new FJ Cruiser."

Anyway, yeah test drive the new 1 series. I'm sure rollin' on to the lot in a 3 series and talking trade in would raise my chances for a test drive :D

It's way overweight, for one.

Ultimately, that's what bugs me most about the 1 series. It's basically a 3 series that was scrunched up a bit. It's badass, for sure, and a far more cost-effective design for BMW to build, but it's no 1 series - it's about the size of the last-gen 3 series.

A real 1 series should be far lighter - about that of a current Mini or Focus, with a range of 4-cylinders from mild to wild.

Speaking of Mini, that's exactly why we're unlikely to see a proper 1-series - BMW doesn't need to compete with itself.
