bomz cai

Im thinking of buying the cai from someone on here and I just have a few questions. Since its a long tube design where does the filter actually go or end up? Will it be ok for a UP of michigan winter? What is this other piece people say to get if you have a cai, where does it go and what is the price? How hard is it to install? Ive done intakes but never a long one like that. ANything else I need to know about them.

the CAI is easy to install, i cant remember the popularity of the bomz, but the part peoplr say to get is a bypass valve, it's a foam (disc shaped) peice that fits somewhere near the middle of the intake tube that sucks in air if the filter becomes submerged in water, it's am attemp at stopping hydrolock.
If I recall, arn't the BOMZ Cai's the junky ebay ones? Your get what you pay for.

Also, they're hella easy to install.
how low does it actually sit, like is it ok for regualr driving , winter, and some puddles.
I dunno, I know of way too many people who hydro-locked their motors with CAI, be safe and get a bypass valve. It sits right at the bottom of your bumper, just a tad higher. You'll be okay with minor puddles without one, but I catch my self going through puddles by mistake. I hear the bomz isn't too bad, but I think someone is selling a used AEM CAI in FS for not too much, I think 65?
where can I get a bypass vlave from? If I got throuh big snow drifts in the winter should I be worried?
I've got the Bomz. Had it for well over a year now. It's not bad. The "you get what you pay for" thing is a bit over-rated, at least in my opinion when it comes to the intake tubing. If you can pick up a used AEM for cheap, then go that route if you want. But I've had absolutely no problems with my CAI since I've had it on. My bolt rusted and broke, so I went to the hardware store and bought a new one. But that was about it. The filter does sit low though, so you really have to watch puddles. Being up in the UP, you'll probably want to protect the filter during the winter. I bought a plexiglass shield that bolts on and protects the entire filter. It does a really good job.

It's a pretty easy install. Shouldn't take you more than 25 minutes, and that's at the very most. The Bomz goes for around $40 or so while other brands go for much higher. The AEM goes for over $300 just so you know.
ya got any pics of that shield or where to get it? and the bypass valve too?
the only problem i have with the bomz is the elbow..it gets kinked quite easily..other than that though its a good intake...i wouldnt worry about snow, its a bit too big to do nedamage to an intake? just get a sheild and be fine..can get one from www.myfordperformance.com
sry for the ?'s. but I dont see what type of shield to use. There are the heat shields but idk what other types. I found the bypass valves and on ebay there are aem which stop from hydrolocking and then the universal ones that say they increase performance, will that type work. With the foam piece there how can it still suck from the lower filter down the pipe?

I did mine fairly quickly. Took me about 25 minutes. On the AEM website they have the cold air intake listed for $346.96 Other dealers might sell it cheaper, I was just referring to what they had listed.

I'll try to get some pics of the shield as soon as I put it back on my car. I had taken it off for the summer, but it will be going back on this weekend. I couldn't find it on the myfordperformance website either, but that is where I got mine from. You might want to PM MyFordPerformance to see if he still makes them.

If it took an hour and a half to install a Bomz Cai, maybe you shouldnt be doing anything under your hood.

An hour and a half? You must've got caught up somewhere because it shouldn't be that difficult. An exhaust swap doesn't even take an hour and a half.

how many beers did you have while installing. I had a 12 pack and still got it done in 30.   . the only thing I had a problem with is the cheap elbow at the throtle boddy. I ended up cuting the factory one and adapting it. so maby after that 45 mins.

Its coming with no directions, anywhere I can find any online that will work? I know its pretty simple but jw what to do with the sensor and some othet things.
should be pretty straight foward. mine was new and did not come instructions. you will need a set of the safty torx bits for removal of the maf. everything else should be straight foward.

good luck
Install about 30 minutes. See this How-To Article: http://www.myfordfocus.com/how-to/aem-cai.htm

Removing the stock intake is harder than installing the CAI.
Does anyone know what size air filter the BOMZ CAI takes? Is it 2" or 2.5"?
