Wife and I thought we take a weekend and attend a different kind of racing...LOL

95 degrees out but with the salt add another 20 degrees. The salt reflects the heat right back up at you.

My wife, daughter and friend Jason.

Pulling off the road race wheels for a set of skinnies.

1st time I used the Port Potty, get out felt like air conditioning...LOL

Salt is wet then it dries, crystallizes, which is stuck-on like glue.

Do you guys remember the movie "Independence Day" when they were driving to the air base? It looks just like that at the end of the day as your not allowed to stay on the salt after 8PM. Then everyone has to get in a single file line to cross the water to the two lane road.

Two miles of cars lined up, doesn't include any of the race cars which is another 4 miles long of cars in their pits.

Ford Racing brought a 770HP Hydrogen Powered Car (Fusion) to run. You can miss their pit with the huge semi truck of hydrogen cells, Ford Racing trailers and 20 tents. It looks like a compound.

Boyd Coddington brought a car as well. He was kind enough to bump us out of the Tech Line, which we already spent 4 hours in before they bumped us to the next day. Thanks Boyd!

I'l have to get pics of the 6000 HP Freightliner that is running.

Oh, and we finally got a good night sleep. All the guys were up for two days with about 2 hours sleep.

Sounds like an intresting time. What kind of speeds did the Z acheave? I take it there is only 1 road on and off the salt? That is something I would like to go watch.

There are six roads depending on the class and speed you can run. Today was really windy and they had to stop cars from running off and on. Our two tents are destroyed. You know when you anchor them down with stakes and the wind is blowing gust up-to 80 mph? The legs broke off!

We haven't got a chance to get a run in. We will do that on Monday. We have spent 8 hours in Tech Inspection in two days. The new drivers get pulled through the ringer on what they go over. The tech inspection sheet is four pages long!

They were impressed though as we only need to fix three issues. Those three issues took 15 mins to fix.

With a new car and driver they will make you do the following:
1st run 150
2nd run 175
3rd run speed your able to run.

The record is 189 we think the car will do 180.

Keep in mind this is a stock 350Z with just fuel management system, tune and bigger injectors. No turbo or S/C can run in this class unless it was stock from the factory.

More pics here...

BTW...we are at a hotel about 10 mins from Miller Motorsports Park. All I have to say...it's unreal. Beautiful facility! The are running the SCCA Solo 1 this weekend. You should see the Miata in the hotel parking lot. The rear wing...bigger than the hotel...j/k the side fins are made from cutting boards! I'll get a pic of it in the morning if it's still here.

Plan on spending 200 hours getting the car ready.
I looked at the Tech sheet for the 130 MPH club. It doesn't seem like there's 200 hours of stuff there. The 150 MPH club I could see since you need a cage, nets, etc. I konw the tire/wheel combo is a biggie just to get traction. After that it'd probably be splitter/partial under tray to try to help with aero a bit (I'd have to research what you can really do in 130 MPH club. Hmmm. I guess I could see 200 hours if I was trying to build a partial under-tray/splitter setup from scratch.

All that being said, I'm not sure if the Focus would actually be able to put the power down and get to the minimum 130 MPH in a mile. :dunno:

Miller Motorsports Park is the new western road course mecca. I'd love to take the car out there for a weekend of club lapping. It's just so @#$%ing far from here. Trailering is a must from my perspective. I KNOW that some folks drive down to SoCal and back to track their cars, but I just can't see doing that personally. It's doable, I just don't want to do it.

I agree 100% with you. Plus driving a car with race sheets and cage or roll bar will not be that comfortable!

Since your Focus is a daily driver and your considering doing this in the future buy another Focus to take there. The salt as much as you think you got it off the car, you won't and you will see the car rusting in 12 mos.

Were back home now.

Will did a run before they closed the course down for the day. Since he is a rookie driver he could only go 130. Then you take the slip, get it approved and get back in queue to run again. 2nd run 158. He said he was only hitting 3K RPM in 4th and had plenty of throttle left. I'll find out what he did later today as I'm pretty sure with the Computer Mgt system he was able to hit 180 today.

just don't get a beaded seat cover. my mom had one of those in her '84 oldsmobile. when i was a teenager, i was driving it and the strap that goes around the headrest snapped. those beads turn into ball bearings -- i immediately slid under the dash and my legs were folded up in a way that i couldn't get back up again. thank god my friend terry was with me, he's a big guy and he grabbed my collar and dragged me back up off the floorboard so i could stop the damn car. heh.
