I've never see a picture of the zetec block, how much room is there to bore? Would boring it to 2.2L cause serious durability issues? How about with sleeves? Maybe someone has already done this and I missed it, or maybe I'm still just living in a B series honda world, but seems like a good idea to me.

There is not enough Cyl. wall to bore more that about .060 MAX and i dont know if i would do that on anything i was making power with

We have the sleaves ready for the 2.3 duratec to make it a 2.5 when it comes out it is more like the honda you were talking about

1TurboFocus may be correct as the timetable for the cars to actually be on the street is corrected to March 2003. According to the string, the Duratec engines will be offered in the "green" states first.

what is the big deal , from the specs the duratec 2.3 only makes about 10-15 more hp and same goes with tourque , so whats all the fuss about ? are the zetec blocks closed deck block's ? or are they open deck.

The Duratec ia an all-aluminum engine with a Cosworth inspired design originally intended for Formula One competition. A stock Duratec with very few modifications will easily make over 200 h.p! Adding high compression forged pistons and rods will increase the h.p. to about 275 at 7500 rpm with a greater emphasis on torque numbers and reliability not h.p. Circle Performance has conducted over 100 hard dyno pulls using the stock block, crankshaft and head.

All-out hard core drag engine for the Mazda6 team is saying their de-stroked 2.1 Duratec engine when fitted with a turbo will make 1000 h.p (conservative).

A guy in the UK is running a 2.1L Zetec with a T3 Turbo and about 320bhp.
It's had a lot of work though...

yes but its not a duratec...some other guys who have been looking at the duratec have noticed if you destroke it back to a 2.0l you get a very rev friendly engine...to those who are thinking about an engine swap goodluck...the engine swap mentality stems here from old school hotrod and new school honda rice conversions...the majority of these swaps are plug and play...they drop right in with minimal modification...the new 2.3l duratec while maintaining the mounting points is very different and this swap will be tough even for experienced swappers. however the potential is incredible...i for one am saving now for a trade in in the near future...

This is true, but also remember since Ford is making this engine a stock item in the Focus, it'll be a much easier swap than the V6 Duratec.

I'm betting by this time next year, all the needed parts and "how-to" will be well laid out.

Me, I'm gonna walk outside and look at my ol' small block Chevy truck. I can sit in the engine bay to work on it.

Shoot, you can darn near buy rods and pistons for it at 7-Eleven.

...7-11... true that the engine is going to be there however my point is still that the mentality of an engine swap to 90% of the people who are suggesting it is based on the honda crowd where it is very easy to drop in a b18C for your crappy SOHC 1.6 everything is run the same way there really isn't much to it...the duratec swap is a little more intensive...parts are located in different locations facing different directions and like you said once it has been done it will be a little easier...but not as easy as a those imports have it
